What a weekend for the Victoria Orcas at the BC Provincials!

Our team returned to the island with an incredible 12 medals, competing against the best players from across British Columbia.

A special shoutout to our women’s squad, who absolutely dominated the weekend by bringing home gold in Open Women’s Singles, Open Women’s Doubles, 4.5 Women’s Doubles, and 4.5 35+ Women’s Doubles, along with silver in 4.0 35+ Women’s Singles. An incredible performance that showcased just how strong women’s pickleball is on Vancouver Island.

And there may be even more we weren’t able to find!

What an incredible showing from Island players at the BC Provincial Championships. Congratulations to everyone who brought home a medal, and just as importantly, to everyone who put themselves out there and competed against players from across BC.

At the Victoria Pickleball Centre, our goal is to give players a place to play, train and compete year-round. Seeing so many players from our community representing the Island at Provincials and having this kind of success is amazing to see.

đŸ„‡ Sabrina Lam & Grace Thomas - Gold in the highest Women’s Doubles division, competing against some of the best women in BC. Grace also brought home Gold in the highest Singles division.

🏅 Our VPC coaches Shanna Lyons Kokonis , Roger Graves & Cary Leung all walked away from Provincials with medals of their own!

Meet Daren McLean, a member of the Victoria Orcas!

Daren’s path into pickleball is a little different from most. With no previous racquet-sport background, he built his game from the ground up through hard work, determination, and countless hours on the court.

One of the qualities Daren brings to the Orcas is his natural leadership energy. He’s motivated, competitive, and leads by example through the effort he puts into his own game while pushing those around him to keep improving.

His progress is a great example of just how far dedication and a willingness to put in the work can take you.

We’re excited to announce our newest Victoria Open partner
 Ramen Arashi Langford! 🍜

We’re thrilled to be partnering with ăƒ©ăƒŒăƒĄăƒłć” / Ramen Arashi Langford for the 2026 Victoria Open!

During the tournament weekend (Aug 14-16), they’ll be on-site serving their delicious grab-and-go bento boxes and onigiri. A great way to make it easy for players, volunteers, and spectators to grab a fresh meal without missing any of the action.

As an extra bonus, every Gold Medalist will receive a Ramen Arashi gift card to celebrate their achievement!

Meet Martin Haaf!

Martin is not only a member of the Victoria Orcas but also a coach at the Victoria Pickleball Centre, where he helps players of all levels improve their game.

He teamed up with Gerry Peng to capture gold in Open Men’s Doubles in the Victoria Classic.

Martin’s success is a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and passion he brings both as a competitor and as a coach. We’re proud to have him representing the Orcas.
