Ipe Dojo

Ipe Dojo Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes in Toronto. High quality programs in a welcoming environment.

Our prime focus is encouraging students to seek the best in their lives. We aim to promote the importance of physical activity and strong personal values, cultivating the health of the mind and body through physical activity but also through the fostering good moral character. At Higashi Canada we place the utmost importance on inclusivity and safety. We believe that martial arts should teach peac

e, kindness and humility on the mats and off. Our program has classes for children, youth and adults - including dedicated women only sessions several nights a week. While many of our students thrive competitively, our focus is not competition but creating well-rounded Judoka and Jiu-jitsuka. Higashi Canada is lead by Sensei Jose Eudes Perez Monteiro and Sensei Ana Beatriz De Lima Felix. Sensei Jose is a 6th dan coral belt in Judo, 3rd dan black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and a 2nd dan black belt in Aikido. Sensei Ana is a 3rd dan black belt in Judo and a 1st dan black in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

WHAT ARE YOU REALLY SIGNING UP FOR?

Most parents think they’re signing their child up for Judo or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

They’re not.

They’re investing in something much bigger.

A place where children learn to listen, work hard, face challenges, respect others, and keep going when things get difficult.

The throws, takedowns, pins, and techniques are important.

But they’re just the vehicle.

What we’re really teaching is how to be a better teammate, a better friend, and a stronger, more confident human being.

Years from now, most children won’t remember every technique they learned.

They will remember the lessons.

And those lessons stay with them for life.

- Respect
- Discipline
- Confidence
- Resilience

The belt isn’t the goal.

The person they become is.

⛩️ Judo Is For Everyone 🥋☝🏼

Today we welcomed four new black belts into the Ipê Dojo family.

As I looked at them standing together, I couldn’t help but think about how different their journeys have been.

Philip, at 16 years old, became the youngest black belt in our dojo’s history. Years of training, growth, victories, setbacks, and perseverance brought him to this moment.

Denis, at 70 years old, became our oldest black belt ever. His achievement is proof that it is never too late to challenge yourself and pursue a meaningful goal.

Nicolas grew up on these mats. As the son of two sensei, he has spent his entire life in the dojo, carrying both the privilege and the pressure that comes with it. Today, he earned a black belt that is entirely his own.

Victor, one of Ipê Dojo’s very first students from white to black belt, he balanced Judo with the responsibilities of being an immigrant, a father, and a hardworking professional. Through it all, he never stopped showing up.

Four black belts.

Four different stories.

One shared lesson.

Judo is not about age, background, or where you start. It is about perseverance, humility, respect, and the courage to keep moving forward.

A 16-year-old and a 70-year-old stood side by side today, proving that there is no single path in Judo.

Only the decision to keep coming back to the mat.

Congratulations Philip, Dennis, Nicolas, and Victor.

Judo truly is for everyone. 🥋🖤💛

SHE BELONGS HERE. 🥋

Strength has nothing to do with gender.

It’s built through discipline.
Through hard training.
Through showing up when things get difficult.
Through learning to fall and getting back up again.

At Ipê Dojo, we don’t teach girls to be tough.

We help them discover that they already are.

💛 Confidence.
💛 Resilience.
💛 Focus.
💛 Determination.

Because confidence isn’t given. It’s earned on the mat.

Some weekends stay in your heart forever.

Calgary was one of them. 🇨🇦

🥇 Prokhor Reshetnikov — U16 -46kg National Champion
🥇 Helena Oliveira — U21 -52kg National Champion
🥇 Marcela Ciolfi — U21 -48kg National Champion

Three national titles for Ipê Dojo and Team Ontario

But what made this weekend emotional was not only the medals.

It was seeing the maturity.
The composure under pressure.
The courage to step on the mat and fight for something bigger than fear.

Because we know what exists behind the podium picture.

The pressure.
The expectations.
The long days.
The hard practices.
The moments of frustration that nobody posts.

Competition is beautiful because there is nowhere to hide.
You carry onto the mat every hard training, every sacrifice, every difficult moment, every lesson learned.

And then suddenly… it all comes together for one moment.

And this weekend, these athletes showed exactly who they are.

We are also deeply grateful for the families who trust us to be part of their children’s journey, supporting them through every early morning and evenings, every trip, every victory and every setback along the way.

Proud beyond words of this team and everything we are building together. 🖤💛

Shoulder to shoulder.
One team. One family.
We rise together.
