Ipe Dojo

Ipe Dojo Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes in Toronto. High quality programs in a welcoming environment.

Our prime focus is encouraging students to seek the best in their lives. We aim to promote the importance of physical activity and strong personal values, cultivating the health of the mind and body through physical activity but also through the fostering good moral character. At Higashi Canada we place the utmost importance on inclusivity and safety. We believe that martial arts should teach peac

e, kindness and humility on the mats and off. Our program has classes for children, youth and adults - including dedicated women only sessions several nights a week. While many of our students thrive competitively, our focus is not competition but creating well-rounded Judoka and Jiu-jitsuka. Higashi Canada is lead by Sensei Jose Eudes Perez Monteiro and Sensei Ana Beatriz De Lima Felix. Sensei Jose is a 6th dan coral belt in Judo, 3rd dan black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and a 2nd dan black belt in Aikido. Sensei Ana is a 3rd dan black belt in Judo and a 1st dan black in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

đŸ€” What keeps people coming back?

Not just the techniques. Not the belts. Not even the victories.

It’s being surrounded by people who challenge you, support you, laugh with you, and make every moment on the tatami memorable. đŸ„‹

Somewhere along the way, teammates become friends, and a dojo becomes a community.

Some moments say more than medals ever could. đŸ„‹đŸ€

Beyond competition, martial arts creates bonds built through shared challenges, trust, respect, and countless hours on the tatami.

Because becoming a great athlete is also about learning how to be there for someone else.

That’s the kind of strength we’re proud to build at IpĂȘ Dojo, great athletes, genuine friendships, and confident young women.

THREE YEARS OF IPÊ DOJO

Three years ago, IpĂȘ Dojo started with an idea, a lot of passion, and the belief that a dojo could be much more than a place to train.

Today, when we look back, we see so much more than classes, medals, belts and competitions. We see friendships that were created on the mats, families that became part of our family, kids growing up inside the dojo, adults discovering judo and jiu-jitsu for the first time, athletes learning how to win and, just as importantly, how to lose, get back up and keep going.

In three years, our mats have taken us much further than we could have imagined. Across Canada and around the world, we have trained, competed, travelled, learned and proudly carried the IpĂȘ name with us.

But some of the most important moments never happened on a podium.

They happened during ordinary practices. During belt promotions. In the conversations after training. In the first ukemi, the first competition, the first medal, the difficult days, the breakthroughs, the laughs, the trips and all those little moments that slowly turned a group of people into a community.

IpĂȘ was created to be a place where people could grow through martial arts.

Three years later, that remains exactly who we are.

To every student who has stepped onto our mats, every parent who trusted us with their child, every coach, athlete, friend and family member who has been part of this journey: thank you.

You are part of the story of IpĂȘ Dojo.

Today we celebrate everything we have built together and everything that is still ahead.

Three years of building.
Learning. Competing. Growing.
Together.

And this is only the beginning. đŸŒłđŸ„‹đŸ’›đŸ–€

Happy 3rd Anniversary, IpĂȘ Dojo!

Your Best 90 minutes of the Day. ⭐

Training isn’t something you squeeze into your schedule when life gets easier. It’s the habit that makes everything else easier.

For 90 minutes, the world can wait. No emails. No meetings. No notifications demanding your attention. Just movement, focus, and the simple challenge of becoming a little better than you were yesterday.

The benefits don’t end when class is over.

The discipline you build on the mat follows you into your work, your relationships, your health, and the way you handle life’s challenges.

Judo and BJJ isn’t just what we do for 90 minutes.
It’s a lifestyle that shapes the other 22œ hours of the day.

See you on the mat. 😉

Leading by Learning.

Congratulations to José Eudes Monteiro and Ana Beatriz Félix on becoming officially IJF Academy Certified Coaches after successfully completing the IJF Academy Coaches Course at the Kodokan in Tokyo, Japan.

Throughout the course, they proudly represented Judo Canada Official as the only coaching pair from Canada. They trained, learned, and were evaluated alongside Olympic and World Champions, elite coaches, and participants from around the world.

One of the highlights of the week was the opportunity to demonstrate their techniques in the presence of Her Imperial Highness the Princess, the President of the Kodokan, and its senior instructors.

This achievement is especially significant as Sensei Ana became the first female coach from Judo Ontario to earn the IJF Academy Coach Certification, marking an important milestone for women in judo coaching across the province.

Congratulations, Sensei José and Sensei Ana.

Your commitment to lifelong learning continues to inspire our students, our coaching team, and our entire community.

THE ELITE PATHWAY #03 — THE SUPPORT SYSTEM

đŸ„‡ When people watch an athlete compete, it’s easy to believe the outcome is determined by talent, determination, and the hours spent on the mat.

Those things matter.

But at the highest level, they are only part of the equation.

Elite performance is built long before competition day. It is shaped by the habits developed every day, the decisions made between training sessions, and the professionals who help athletes continue improving when progress becomes more difficult to find.

We believe that developing a high-performance athlete requires more than exceptional coaching.

It requires a complete support system.

One that helps athletes train harder without breaking down. Recover faster. Build confidence through adversity. Fuel their bodies properly. And continue moving forward even when the path becomes challenging.

Every member of that system has a different role, but they all share the same purpose:

đŸ‘‰đŸŒ To create an environment where athletes can reach their highest potential.

Because champions are never built by one person.

They are built by people working together, each contributing their expertise to help an athlete become the best version of themselves.

Without that support system, talent can only take you so far.

đŸ€© Believe. Then Become.

Every child walks onto the mat carrying a different story.

- Some are shy.
- Some are afraid to fail.
- Some don’t think they’re strong enough.

Our job isn’t just to teach throws and holds. It’s to help them discover what they’re capable of.

Confidence isn’t something we hand them.
It’s something they earn, one class, one challenge, one small victory at a time.

🏅 The medal is a beautiful reward.
But the greatest achievement is the moment a child starts believing:
“I can do this.” 🏆

That’s a victory they’ll carry far beyond the dojo.

⛩ At IpĂȘ Dojo, we’re not just building athletes.
We’re building confident, resilient young people ready for whatever life puts in front of them.

Fitness is the Reward. Not the Requirement.

One of the biggest misconceptions about starting Judo or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is thinking you need good cardio, strength, or to be “in shape” before your first class. ❌

⚠ You don’t.

Training is what builds your fitness.✅

Whether your goal is to lose weight, improve your health, gain confidence, learn self-defense, or simply challenge yourself, you don’t need to arrive ready, you just need to take the first step.

⛩ At IpĂȘ Dojo, you’ll train in a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone progresses at their own pace. There’s no pressure to keep up with anyone else. Just show up, keep learning, and let the process do the rest.

Six months from now, you’ll wish you had started today.
