Our committee is often asked how umpires can improve, or we receive feedback on individual performances.
One of the best ways to support better officiating—and to understand the game —is to get involved yourself.
At the request of our membership in 2024, we partnered with the Baseball Ontario to launch online educational materials. This initiative makes it easier for umpires to learn, develop their skills, and access important information outside of traditional in-person clinics, giving officials more flexibility to prepare and improve throughout the season.
If you’re interested in umpiring, we encourage you to register for our online training and attend an in-person clinic. These sessions cover not only the rules of the game, but also how to stay safe—both physically and mentally—on the field.
With the season fast approaching, now is the time to get started. We have a few remaining clinics over the next week:
April 26
Lumsden — Level 1 & Level 2 — Lumsden High School
Outlook — Level 1 — Outlook High School
Humboldt — Level 1 & Level 2 — Humboldt Uniplex Curling Rink
April 28
North Battleford — Level 2 — BMBI Indoor Facility
Estevan — Level 1 & Level 2 — Hillcrest School
We are also hosting another High Performance Clinic on April 25 in Saskatoon, designed for umpires working or aspiring to work in SPBL 15AA/AAA and 18U AA/AAA levels.
