A bittersweet week- saying “see you later” to a few Mamas (and their sweet kiddos 😭) that I have had the absolute privilege to train since either second trimester of pregnancy or since 2-3 months postpartum. Forever in awe of you!!❣️

🚨 Programming for pregnancy and postpartum is so much more than “safe exercises.”

Every exercise selection, cue, and progression should have a purpose.

Here’s just a small glimpse into what goes into programming for my pre- and postpartum clients:

✨ Pressure management
• What does effective pressure management actually look like?
• What are the signs someone isn’t managing pressure well?
• What other factors (breathing strategy, mobility, strength, coordination, movement history, fatigue, etc.) might be contributing?

✨ Rib mobility
Can the rib cage move the way it needs to for efficient breathing and core function?

✨ Alignment
How is the body positioned, and is that position helping or limiting movement and force production?

✨ Postpartum movement habits
The way we carry babies, feed, rock, and hold them for hours every day often creates movement adaptations. Sometimes those are helpful, and sometimes they contribute to compensatory patterns—like reduced hip internal rotation, altered trunk mechanics, or shoulder and neck tension.

Good programming isn’t about avoiding movement—it’s about understanding why someone moves the way they do and building a plan that meets them where they are.

If you’ve ever been told to “just strengthen your core” or “don’t do crunches,” you’re missing out on so much more, very important information.
