Walk in the Park

Walk in the Park 33rd Annual WITP
DATE: SEPT 6, 2026
50k | 25k | 14k | 8k*
*New distance added for 2026! The WITP was started in 1992 by Nick Jordan.

At the time there were no Ultra-Marathons in the interior of BC and the WITP served primarily a tight-knit group of runners. Although the popularity of both tail running and ultra-marathoning has grown, the philosophy of the WITP from the get-go has been to put on a well organized, low-cost & low-key event in the tradition and spirit of grass-roots trail running . And we continue to embody and es

pouse that tradition today. The WITP, during the first 10 years, took place in the hills around Juniper Park to the East of downtown Kamloops. In 2002, we made a move West into Kenna Cartwright Park where, first an 18km loop course was established and utilized until 2016 at which time a new 25km loop was developed for the 25th anniversary running. The inclusion of the shorter distances provides newer runners the opportunity to build up to a longer distance and additionally, allow them to partake in the old-school laid back atmosphere of the WITP. The course consists of double and single-track dirt trails cutting through sagebrush desert and Ponderosa Pine/Douglas Fir forest. The trail is rarely flat as approx. 900m of climb and decent is required on each loop. Temperatures can vary considerably. Over the years we have seen everything from a steady light drizzle, to biting cold with wind, to temps approaching mid 30C. One year started with a dusting of snow and by noon it was 32C. We have lucked out on the wet side of things as although there has been sporadic light rainfall and steady drizzle, we have never seen an outright downpour. Shade and course cover does vary so please come prepared. LIMITED ENTRY: The number of entries is limited to 100 in total. There are 50 spots reserved for the 50k distance and 25 spots available for each of the 14k and 25k distances. Registration will close for each distance once capacity is reached. The reserved spots will remain available until 3 weeks prior to the event start at which time the distance caps will be removed and entries will be accepted until the 100 entry cap has been reached.

A huge thank you to the Pancake Run crew for once again taking over the Spadefoot Aid Station!

Clint’s running buddies stepped up to care for our runners, bringing plenty of race experience—and great energy—with them. They know what runners need because they’ve raced, crewed and spent countless hours supporting one another on the trails.

Whether you need water, fuel, encouragement or a little push to keep moving, you’ll be in excellent hands every time you pass through Spadefoot.

Thank you, Pancake Run crew, for showing up for our runners and helping make Walk in the Park such a special experience! 🐐⛰️

NUTRITION TIPS FROM AMANDA: PROTEIN SUPPORTS REPAIR
Running (or any exercise) breaks your body down. Protein helps rebuild it stronger. Without enough protein, recovery slows and injury risk can increase over time.

Simple place to start: Include a protein source at every meal and snack (eggs, yogurt, meat, tofu, beans, etc.), aiming for consistency across the day. Aim to consume at least 20g of protein within an hour after exercise, up to 40g for older athletes or longer runs.

Each Sunday leading up to Walk in the Park, Amanda will be sharing nutrition tips for runners!

We want you ready for Kamloops favorite trail race on September 6! Only 2 weeks away!

Let us know how your training is going! We want to hear from YOU!
