Burnie Chess Club - valid 2020 Official page of Burnie Chess Club. BCC meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm at Vinnies Hub, 43 Wragg St, Somerset (from 2022).

All levels welcome, free coaching for inexperienced players including juniors.

Round 5 was played in our 2026 Club Championship last week. In the game of the round Reg gave John his first loss of the tournament. Reg won an early exchange and held on strong to get the victory. James also remained undefeated with a win over Morten.

Round 4 was played in our 2026 Club Championship last week. Caleb gave Reg his first loss of the tournament in the game of the round. Caleb played a really strong game and was too strong in the end. The loss for Reg has seen a change in tournament leader with James now out in front by half a point.

Round 3 was played in our 2026 Club Championship last week. Reg Harvey continued his great form with a strong win over reigning champ Dylan. Reg pulled out an amazing combination at move 24 that won a rook and slowly ground Dylan down till he resigned. Jordan also remained undefeated with his 3rd draw in 3 weeks in a strong performance against Morten.

Two weeks ago the Burnie Chess Club began our 2026 Club Championship. We’ve ended playing a round robin tournament with 60 mins + 10 seconds time limit. After 2 rounds Reg Harvey is leading the tournament with 2 wins from 2. He ground out an extremely tough win vs Morten last week in the game of the round.

Tonight the Burnie Chess Club will start our annual Club Championship. The tournament will kick off at 7pm so if you are playing try and be there a bit early. Time control this year will be 60 mins plus 10 second increments per player. Players will be required to write there moves down if possible. The tournament will be an 8 round Swiss. Each player will be allowed one half point bye if you can’t make a week but any more than one will be a zero point bye.

The Burnie Chess Club will kick back off tonight at 7pm after 2 weeks off for school holidays.

It’ll just be friendly games tonight as I know a few members are still away.

Next week, Wednesday the 13th of May, we will begin our Club Championship. It’ll be one game a night with most likely 60 mins each with 30 second increments. If you are planning to enter let me know tonight or message me during the week that’d be fantastic and I’ll add you to the draw.

Just a reminder that the Burnie Chess Club will not be meeting tonight or next week during the school holidays.
The next time we meet will be Wednesday the 6th of May.

Tonight at the Burnie Chess Club we will be having a one night Lightning Tournament. 3 minutes plus 2 second increments. It is not our annual Lightning Championship but will still be rated. It will be a 7 or 8 round Swiss depending on numbers. Games to hopefully start at 7pm so try and be there a bit early so I can add you to the draw. Any late comers will most likely have to watch.

After tonight it’s school holidays so the chess club will have a 2 week break. We will resume again once school goes back on the 6th of May.

Last week at the Burnie Chess Club we had week 7 of our Lindsey Atkinson Memorial Tournament. Another two more rounds were played. Dylan had to play Morten in the first lot of games for the night where he ground out a tough victory to take out this year’s tournament. It is the second time he has won this tournament, his other win coming in 2018. Congratulations Dylan!!
There were only a handful of other games played and now most entrants have finished their matches. Tonight will be the last night of the tournament for people to finish any remaining games. Everyone else will just play friendly matches. Aaron has had to be removed from the tournament as he only played 4 games and will not reach the required amount of matches played. His games will still be rated though.
