The Fitzroy River runs through the heart of Rockhampton in Central Queensland and is the largest river catchment flowing to the eastern coast of Australia. The Fitzroy boasts a straight rowing course which is not impacted by tides. It’s located close to the City’s centre with easy parking, easy boat launching and a great climate. Rockhampton’s Fitzroy Rowing Club caters for beginners, social and c

ompetitive rowers. The Club’s squads have grown considerably in the past few years, with members competing for the first time at the 2016 Australian Rowing Championships in Sydney; as well as placing at the 2016 Australian Masters Championships held at Lake Kawana. 🚣 If you are planning a trip up the river this week, please be aware that we are re-installing the 2000m buoyed rowing training course between the ski gardens and approximately 2000m upstream.

The course will support our rowing teams as they train for upcoming regattas.

Crews will be on the river across the next few days while installation works are underway.

The course configuration will be upgraded to a full eight-lane rowing course between 31 August and 11 September in preparation for the 2026 Queensland Schools’ Rowing Championship, which will be held between 19 and 20 September.

We appreciate the community’s patience while the training course is being installed.

The Queensland Schools Rowing Championship is coming to Rocky in 2026. 🚣

The event will see 800 athletes and thousands of supporters come to Rockhampton from 19 - 21 September.

Run by Rowing Queensland and proudly supported by Rockhampton Regional Council, the event shows Rockhampton’s ability to host and deliver large-scale regattas on the Fitzroy.
