💚Green Tara: Moon of Wisdom💚
Long ago, in the turning of ages,
there lived a princess named Yeshe Dawa —
Moon of Wisdom.
Her heart was open, her hands were steady,
devoted to the mending of a suffering world.
The monks told her: Pray to be born a man.
Only men become teachers of the light.
She smiled, and spoke a truth older than their words: There is no man, no woman, no self.
These are only names we cling to.
I will stay in this form,
and work for the freeing of all beings.
So she sat in silence, year after year,
with compassion as her breath and wisdom as her flame. Until the night broke, and she became Green Tara, swift, fearless, the one who does not wait.
They say she hears the cry of every soul in danger and moves before the sound has faded.
She walks with travelers, parts the veil of fear,
and leads the lost through the dark.
In stone and paint she is shown with one foot forward, already rising to meet you where you fall.
And there is a legend: when Avalokiteshvara (The Bodhisattva of infinite Compassion) wept for the world’s pain, a single tear fell to water, and from that tear a lotus opened. From the lotus, Green Tara was born, shining with compassion, clothed in courage.
Even now, people call her name
for shelter, for healing, for wisdom,
for the quiet strength to rise again.
