A child’s first moments in the pool do not need to be rushed. A calm introduction gives them space to notice the water, listen to their instructor and become familiar with a new environment.

Swimming skills are learned through practice, but comfort matters too. When children feel supported, they can approach each new activity with greater readiness and curiosity.

That is why patient guidance, clear routines and encouraging instruction can make such a meaningful difference in a child’s swimming journey.

Safety September is about more than becoming a stronger swimmer. It is about learning how to make safer choices in and around the water. đź’™

Throughout the month, our swimmers will practise practical skills designed to build water awareness and help them feel more prepared for unexpected situations. đź’¦

Keep the conversation going at home and ask your swimmer what safety skill they learned during their lesson. 🏊

A swim lesson is more than the skill being practised—it is also a chance for children to learn what to expect in the water.

Familiar routines, patient guidance and repeated opportunities to try can help a new pool environment feel more manageable. Over time, children can put more of their attention into listening, practising and enjoying the experience.

For parents, consistency matters too. Arriving calmly, talking positively about the lesson and allowing time for learning can support a child’s experience in the pool.

Discover a supportive swimming and water-safety learning experience with WaterPonyz—send us a message to find a class for your child today. 💙

A swim lesson is about more than getting from one side of the pool to the other.

Between each new skill, children are learning to listen, reset, try again and become more comfortable in the water. Those quieter moments matter—they help create a supportive foundation for practical swimming and water-safety learning.

At WaterPonyz, we know each child’s journey can look different, and patient guidance makes room for learning at their own pace.

Ready to support your child’s water-safety journey? Send WaterPonyz a message to find a class that fits. 💙

We have some VERY exciting news to share!

WaterPonyz has officially been named a finalist in the 2026 SWIM Schools Australia Awards for the SWIMSAFER Commitment Award of Excellence! đź’™

This recognition feels especially meaningful during Safety September, a month dedicated to something that sits at the heart of what we do: giving our swimmers practical water safety knowledge and skills that can help them stay safer in and around the water.

From rescue skills and survival techniques to helping our swimmers understand how to respond in different water environments, Safety September is about so much more than learning to swim. It is about building knowledge, awareness and confidence that can stay with our swimmers beyond the pool.

Being recognised as a finalist for our commitment to SWIMSAFER makes us incredibly proud of our teachers, team, swimmers and families who help bring this commitment to life every day. đź’™

The winners will be announced at the SWIM Vorgee Awards Gala Dinner at SWIMCON26 on September 20, so we’ll be keeping everything crossed until then. 🤞

In the meantime, there is plenty more Safety September action coming from our centres, so keep following along. đź’¦

SAFETY SEPTEMBER: WEEK 2 IS HERE! đź’™

After learning about Reach and Throw Rescues during Week 1, we’re continuing Safety September with more practical skills designed to help our swimmers prepare for unexpected situations in the water.

This week, we’re focusing on survival skills, including floating, sculling and treading water. These skills can help a swimmer stay at the surface, conserve energy and give themselves valuable time if they ever find themselves unexpectedly in the water. 💦

Our Safety September program also introduces swimmers to survival positions such as HELP and Huddle, as well as the importance of understanding and using lifejackets correctly.

Learning to swim is incredibly important, but water safety is also about knowing what to do when things don’t go according to plan.

That’s why we practise these skills in a safe environment, helping our swimmers build the knowledge and confidence to become more water wise. 🏊

Week 2 is just getting started, so stay tuned for more Safety September learning from across our WaterPonyz centres. đź’™

Here’s a look back at Week 1 of Safety September across our WaterPonyz centres. 💙

This week, our swimmers have been learning all about RESCUES and one of the most important lessons in water safety: you don’t always have to enter the water to help someone in trouble.

Through Reach and Throw Rescues, swimmers learned how they may be able to help someone while keeping themselves safely out of the water.

Reach Rescue: Using a suitable object to reach out and help someone towards safety.

Throw Rescue: Throwing a suitable floating object to someone who needs help.

These clips show just some of the learning, practising, and fun happening across our centres as we give swimmers practical skills they can understand and remember beyond their swimming lessons. đź’¦

That’s a wrap on Week 1, but Safety September is only getting started. Stay tuned to see what our swimmers will be learning next. 👀
