Hi Fishermen, I've Had a few inquiries about which reels are good for fishing, verses weight, longevity , components, strength, after sale parts and pricing. Don't forget once you reel is 7 or 8 years old it's hard to get parts for and it doesn't care how good condition your reel is in and how much you pay for it. It is even worse for combos, few parts. OK here we go value for money, longevity, components, after sale parts, and strength, for overhead reels, Penn Senator range from small to large reels. Penn started making these reels back in the early fifties. The early reels where made of bakelite, you can still buy parts for them, and there a work horse. The down fall is weight and star drag. Other overheads, Daiwa Sealine, Shimano Beastmaster, Tiagra, TLD series, Penn international, Fin Nor, Some Okuma, all older reels. lets try spin reels, valve for money, strength, and components. Pflueger some reels, Penn spinfisher, Fin Nor offshore, Penn torque, Poor man's stella, Gladiator titan 8000 with up to 30 kgs of drag for roundabout $250. Daiwa GS9 been around a long time. Alvey reels, no bearing been around for every, downfall hard to cast and line twist, use plenty of swivels to alleviate line twist, and have a good go at casting. OK that's all for now. Happy Fishing
