Kwinana area today, the Electrical Group Training Sprintcar Westernapolis
scheduled for today has been RESCHEDULED to take place TOMORROW Sunday November
1st, 2026

Oldfield Chasing Milestone as Canning Vale Toyota Late Model Series Continues

The Canning Vale Toyota Late Model Series heads into its third round of the season this Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex, with another stacked field ready to continue what has already been an incredibly competitive championship.

The nomination list is almost identical to last weekend's field, with Greg Horan, Nic Marshall and Jay Cardy joining the lineup, while Darren Ahearn and Victorian visitor Dylan Barrow are the only absentees from the previous round.

Fresh off his victory at Powerpalooza, Warren Oldfield carries the championship lead into the weekend and will be determined to build on his early momentum. The veteran enters the night on the verge of two remarkable milestones, with another feature race victory set to become his 40th career Canning Vale Toyota Late Model Series feature win, while a podium finish would mark his 120th series podium.

Standing closest to him in the standings is nephew Beau Oldfield, who has quietly put together an outstanding start to the season. Beau is the only driver to have finished on the podium in both feature races so far and sits just eight points behind Warren, ensuring the family rivalry could become one of the stories of the night.

Joe Chalmers bounced back strongly last weekend with a podium finish of his own and has climbed to third in the standings, just 16 points behind the leader. Sitting only a single point behind Chalmers is the ever-consistent Michael Holmes, whose steady performances continue to keep him firmly in championship contention.

Rounding out the current top five is Mat Robbins, who impressed with another strong performance last weekend to record a top-five finish and continue his promising start to the campaign.

One driver who made an immediate impact upon returning was Brent Vosbergen. After sitting out the opening round, Vosbergen fought his way to an impressive fourth-place finish last weekend and will undoubtedly be aiming to return to Victory Lane this Saturday.

Perhaps the biggest indication of just how evenly matched the field is came during the opening two rounds. Across the eight heat races contested so far this season, there have been eight different winners, highlighting the incredible depth of talent throughout the field and suggesting every race remains anyone's to win.

Jay Cardy is expected to return after engine issues sidelined him last weekend, a rare occurrence for one of the category's most reliable competitors over the past decade. With the mechanical gremlins hopefully behind him, Cardy will be eager to make up for lost ground.

Veteran Brad Blake can also never be discounted. A 40-time Perth Motorplex feature winner, Blake has repeatedly shown he knows how to get the job done when it matters most.

Rookie Nathan Chalmers has continued to impress through his opening two meetings in Late Models and looks increasingly comfortable with every lap, while fellow rookie Ian Wright will be keen to bounce back after a difficult debut that didn't produce the results he was hoping for.

Luke Halliday also has unfinished business. Starting from the front row last weekend, Halliday looked well placed before his night ended prematurely on the infield. He'll be looking to convert his pace into a strong finish this Saturday.

With milestone victories on the line, a tight championship battle developing and virtually every driver in the field proving capable of winning races, all the ingredients are there for another thrilling chapter in what is already shaping as one of the most competitive Canning Vale Toyota Late Model Series seasons in recent memory.

Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex promises another spectacular night of Late Model racing.

The next gen…….from the kid who wasnt really interested in racing anything, hes now decided to give dirt karts a go after watching his cousins and doesnt he look the part just like his dad 👌 The only expectation we have is that Jack has fun and races his fellow racers with respect. A massive thanks to Brad and Amy from Full Bore Race Gear for Jacks custom suit and most of his other gear. You guys are always the first to jump on board and its so appreciated 🥳

JO with the win!! The club never gave up each time a shower hit and it made for a racey track for the feature!! Well done to Jamie, Beau on 3rd and Warren in 4th! Brooke was having an awesome feature at the front of the pack but unfortunately after a slight touch of the wall that was enough to bend some stuff and send him infield. We now have 2 weeks break before round 2 at the Perth Motorplex season opener!

Oldfield Wins Fifth Ray Tulk!

For the second consecutive season, Jamie Oldfield has opened his campaign in perfect fashion, remaining nearly unbeaten throughout the night to claim victory in the opening round of the Canning Vale Toyota Late Model Series at Ellenbrook Speedway.thanks to Scardifields Smash Repairs

The event, doubling as the annual Ray Tulk Memorial, attracted a strong twenty-two car field, with Jamie Oldfield going through the heats with a win and a second to be top points, earning him the right to start on the front row for the thirty lap feature race alongside Jay Cardy.

Despite persistent drizzle and the occasional shower throughout the afternoon, the feature event finally got underway, and it was Cardy who got the perfect start to the feature race, launching into the lead ahead of Jamie Oldfield and rookie sensation Jack Barnewall.

Brad Blake wasted little time moving forward, sweeping past Barnewall for third on the second lap, with Beau Oldfield following him through to demote him to fifth.

Lapped traffic began to play a role on lap five, but Cardy expertly negotiated his way through, maintaining his advantage as Jamie Oldfield and Blake also cleared the slower cars without issue.

Further back, Veronica McCann continued her impressive drive, slipping underneath Barnewall to move into fifth place.

After starting from the very back row after issues in his heat races, defending series champion Joe Chalmers was making steady progress. He cracked the top ten by lap seven and advanced to ninth a lap later, only for his charge to come to an abrupt halt when he spun while attempting to lap Mat Robbins, bringing on the race's first caution and sending himself to the rear of the field.

Disaster then struck for the race leader. Cardy launched strongly on the restart, but almost immediately the #52 machine erupted in smoke, forcing him out of the event. Fortunately, the remainder of the field avoided the stricken car.

Jamie Oldfield inherited the lead ahead of Blake and Beau Oldfield. As the field approached the completion of lap eight, Beau threw his car to the inside of Blake in turn four in the battle for second. The pair made contact, with Blake spinning sharply to the right and bringing out another caution.

Oldfield controlled the ensuing restart, while Beau quickly found himself under intense pressure from McCann, with Barnewall and Warren Oldfield close behind.

By lap ten the field had begun to spread out, while Joe Chalmers had once again worked his way back into the top ten.

Another caution flew just before halfway when David Boyes took evasive action to avoid another car and spun to a halt.

Jamie again nailed the restart, but Beau couldn't hold onto second, with both McCann and Barnewall getting through into the minor podium positions.

Just one lap later, the yellows were required once more when Mat Robbins spun, leaving six other cars with nowhere to go as they piled into the incident. Nathan Chalmers was the only driver unable to continue.

Beau quickly recovered, reclaiming third from Barnewall after the restart, but out front Jamie Oldfield was beginning to break away. McCann settled comfortably into second as the leading trio edged away from the remainder of the field.

Behind them, Joe Chalmers continued an outstanding recovery drive, charging back into the top six.

The final ten laps ran uninterrupted, allowing the leaders to establish comfortable gaps. With five laps remaining, Jamie Oldfield enjoyed a lead of more than two-and-a-half seconds over McCann, who in turn held around a one-and-a-half-second advantage over Beau Oldfield.

There was no catching Jamie Oldfield in the closing laps, the veteran crossing the finish line more than four seconds clear to claim victory in the Ray Tulk Memorial for the fifth time in his career.

McCann produced one of the drives of the night to finish second, while Beau Oldfield completed the podium. Warren Oldfield crossed the line in fourth, with Joe Chalmers' remarkable recovery earning him fifth place.

Teams now have a fortnight to reset ready for round two at the Perth Motorplex.
