🐶 Dogs at Sporting Activities and Community Events 🐶
Derwent Valley Council understands that dogs are an important part of many families. However, dogs are not recommended at sporting activities, including training sessions and games, or at community events and festivals.
Busy sporting grounds and event spaces can be unpredictable environments, with large crowds, children, food vendors, moving vehicles, loud noises and sporting equipment all creating potential safety risks for both people and pets.
We remind dog owners that:
✔ Dogs are not permitted on playing surfaces or 10 metres of a playground.
✔ Dog waste must be picked up and disposed of appropriately.
✔ Owners must comply with the requirements of the Dog Control Act 2000 and Council's Dog Management Policy.
✔ Dogs must be under effective control at all times.
Importantly, dogs (other than guide dogs and registered assistance dogs) are not permitted at public events and festivals held on Council-maintained land unless specific approval has been granted by Council.
If your furry friend needs some exercise, Derwent Valley Council has several designated dog exercise areas throughout the municipality where dogs can enjoy a safer and more suitable environment.https://www.derwentvalley.tas.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0024/1723830/Declared-Dog-Areas-2024-11-28.pdf
Thank you for helping us keep our sporting facilities, parks and community events safe and enjoyable for everyone.
