In 1958, Jack Berry founded Mount Colah Soccer Club, which is known today as Mount Colah Football Club. The first team started with Jack Berry speaking to the parents at the relatively new at the time Mount Colah Public School. Students from Mount Colah Public formed the nucleus of Mount Colah Soccer Club’s first team. The Club grew and in 1961 fielded its first Men All Age team consisting mainly of the soccer dads and people who helped with the Club. In the 1960’s the Club continued to grow and struggled to find grounds of its own. In 1965 permission was obtained from Hornsby Council to create a park where now sits Berry Park. The park’s name is aptly named after the founder of Mount Colah Football Club, Jack Berry. Over the years, the Club continued to grow to include girls and women’s teams. Over sixty years later after the Club was founded, the Club has grown to include over five hundred members which range from boys and girls under six years of age, to men and women in a variety of age groups. They play in the junior MiniRoos competition which is non-competitive, to the competitive Youth and Senior competitions. Each year the Club introduces many players, young and not so young to the joys of football. Football or known in some countries as soccer is the most popular sport in the world and the most popular youth sport in Australia. Measured in smiling faces, laughter and enjoyment, Mount Colah continues to excel in bringing the world game to our local area. Mount Colah has competed at all levels from the lower divisions to the pinnacle such as Premier League and Division 1 in the North Suburbs Football Association (NSFA) competition. Mount Colah has also competed at the state level in the Football NSW Champion of Champions and State Cup competitions.
*The Mount Colah Boys Under 13s in 1980 were the first Mount Colah team to become the number 1 team in NSW, winning the Champion of Champions Boys Under 13 tournament.
*In 1993 the Mount Colah Boys Under 17 team became the number 1 team in NSW, winning the Champion of Champions Boys Under 17 tournament. In 2017, Mount Colah’s Women’s Over 35s won the Football NSW Women Over 30 Champion of Champions tournament, and became the number 1 team in NSW. The first women’s team from NSFA to do so.
*In 2018, Mount Colah’s G16A team became the first MCFC Girls team to compete in Champion of Champions. In the Girls Under 16 tournament they made it to the Grand Final and were Runners-up to be the number 2 team in NSW.
2018 was a big year for Mount Colah at the Elite level of football with W35A winning three Women’s Over 35 Division 1 Premierships in a row, and playing in their third consecutive Football NSW Champion of Champions. A major achievement for Senior and Women’s football in the Club. In junior competition the Under 16 age group broke new records with U16A being the first Mixed team to play in Super League from Mount Colah, and G16A being the first Girls team to play in Diamond League from Mount Colah. G16A won the Premiership and Grand Final in 2018 creating another record for the Club. In 2019 W35A set another division 1 record winning three games in a row and scoring 31 goals with no goals against. A record for a Mount Colah competition team. It will probably take a long time to break. It will take a very very long time for another division 1 team to break this record.
2020 was a year of change and challenge for the club with the global COVID-19 pandemic. The season started late and was shortened. The club met the challenge with changes and innovations such as the first Presentation Day live streamed and continued to grow with more players and teams, especially in girls and women’s. It also saw W35A continue to set new records.
* In 2020, Mount Colah’s W35A became the first team to play in two age divisions in the same season and become premiers in both competitions, Women’s Over 35 Division 1 and Women’s All Age Division 3.
*In 2020, Mount Colah’s W35A became the first Mount Colah team to play in the NSFA-Manly Warringah Champions Cup. They played in the inaugural tournament. A special thank you and recognition to the large number of volunteers who devote many hours of their spare time to keep the Club running. Without their help throughout the years the Club would not be the success it is today.
