Weight transfer is a concept which many coaches use on the regular, but what does it actually mean?

In batting, weight transfer simply means moving your body weight from one position to another to generate power and maximise control.

For instance, in a cover drive body weight should shift from a neutral position (stance) onto and through the front foot, just like young Ranvir in the video above!

A great insight into why we want to get onto the ball of our back foot in the pull shot!

It allows us not only to get tall (on top of the ball), but also lets us swivel with the ball giving us more control over the shot.

Whilst this point in preseason is a brilliant chance for players to work on their technical fundamentals, it’s still important that you’re spending some of your time at training executing under pressure!

Drills and activities such as this new ball challenge our group athletes undertook this week are a great way to put your technical hard yards to the ultimate test, and help them adapt in high intensity scenarios 💪

Send this to a mate who needs to work on their new ball game 🏏

3 tips for players who want to take their pull shot to the next level:

🙌 High Hands: Getting your hands high in your back lift allows you to hit the ball from high to low, minimising the chance of a top edge. It also allows you to free your arms up to get a fuller swing which will give you more power!

📏 Stay Tall: Staying tall as you shift your weight onto your back foot is another element crucial to allowing power and good control of the ball. Players who collapse their back leg often fall off balance and end up ‘stickering’ the ball.

🕺 Swivel: Being able to swivel through your pull shot is important when facing bouncers which get up to shoulder height or higher. The swivel allows your to ride the ball / use the pace and hit it behind square!

Comment below whether you think these are standard cut shots or back foot drives 🤔

CricketLAB athlete Vyom was absolutely destroying anything slightly short outside the off stump on Wednesday night!

Take note of how still Vyom is at the point of contact, especially his head. Many batters fall away as they play their cuts, which causes them to lose power and hit the ball toward cover rather than behind point. The stiller you are, the more control and power you’ll get through the shot!
