2026 VICTORIAN SAMBO CHAMPIONSHIPS

COMPETITION REGULATIONS

1. Purpose of the Competition

The competition aims to:

* Develop and promote SAMBO throughout Victoria
* Improve athletes’ competitive skills and experience
* Identify Victoria’s leading SAMBO athletes
* Strengthen cooperation between SAMBO clubs
* Prepare athletes for future state, national and international competitions

2. Date and Venue

Date: Saturday, 12 September 2026
Official weigh-in: From 12:00 pm
Competition commencement: Following the completion of the weigh-in and draw

Venue:
Dunstan Parade & Centre Avenue
Port Melbourne VIC 3207

3. Competition Divisions

The following divisions will be conducted:

* Men’s Sport SAMBO
* Women’s Sport SAMBO
* Men’s Combat SAMBO
* Women’s Combat SAMBO
* Boys’ Sport SAMBO
* Girls’ Sport SAMBO

Please note: There will be no youth Combat SAMBO divisions.

4. Age Divisions

* Adult divisions: 18 years and over
* Youth divisions: 9–13 years

6. Weigh-In Regulations

* The official weigh-in will commence at 12:00 pm on the day of the competition.
* Each athlete must weigh in for their registered weight category.
* A weight allowance of up to 2 kg will be permitted.
* Athletes must present valid identification at the weigh-in.
* For youth athletes, age, weight and experience will be considered, with safety remaining the highest priority.
* If a division has insufficient entries, the organisers may combine suitable divisions after consulting the athletes, parents and coaches.

7. Registration

Registration fee: AUD $50

All athletes must register online through Smoothcomp.

The registration deadline and Smoothcomp registration link will be announced by the organisers.

Athletes under 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

8. Competition Rules

* The competition will be conducted in accordance with the applicable SAMBO rules and these competition regulations.
* Athletes must wear an approved red or blue SAMBO jacket, belt, shorts and SAMBO shoes.
* Combat SAMBO competitors must wear all required protective equipment.
* All participants must follow the referees’ decisions and the competition’s safety requirements.
* An athlete may be refused permission to compete if they do not meet the required safety, equipment or medical standards.
* Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.

9. Awards

The following places will be awarded in each weight category:

* 1st place: Gold medal
* 2nd place: Silver medal
* 3rd place: Bronze medal

10. Health, Safety and Responsibility

* All athletes must be medically fit to participate.
* Each participant is responsible for their own health, insurance and personal belongings.
* Qualified first-aid personnel will be available throughout the competition.
* For youth divisions, the organisers will consider each athlete’s age, weight and experience to ensure safe and appropriate matches.
* Parents or legal guardians are responsible for supervising athletes under 18 outside the competition area.

BREAKING NEWS🇦🇺

The Australian Sambo Federation, in partnership with the Victoria State Sambo Federation and Melbourne Sambo Academy, successfully conducted a National Sambo Coaches Course at the Melbourne Sambo Academy training facility.

As a result of this program, three new nationally accredited Sambo coaches have been trained and are now prepared to contribute to the continued growth and development of Sambo across Australia.

One of the highlights of the course was the comprehensive training provided in all three disciplines of Sambo: Sport Sambo, Combat Sambo, and Beach Sambo. Participants received detailed instruction in the rules, techniques, coaching methodology, and practical application of each discipline, followed by formal assessments.

In addition, the course included a dedicated module on Sambo for visually impaired athletes, covering competition rules, coaching principles, athlete development, and best practices for working with athletes with disabilities. This reflects the Federation’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and the growth of adaptive Sambo programs in Australia.

We would like to congratulate all newly qualified coaches and wish them every success in their future coaching careers.

The Australian Sambo community continues to grow stronger every year, with dedicated coaches, athletes, referees, and volunteers helping to build the future of our sport.
