R6 Womens Wrap-Up ⚡
Round 6 saw the women’s team take on Warners Bay, who have returned to the competition this season after a number of years away. While Port sits well above them on the ladder, previous results against similar opposition meant the team knew this would be no easy contest.
The girls came out of the blocks strongly, putting early scores on the board and establishing a lead that they were able to maintain throughout the day. It was a complete team performance, with players across every line contributing and working hard for one another all four quarters, coming away with a strong win 48-26.
The side was boosted by the return of some familiar faces, while a number of players newer to the game continued to step up and grow in confidence. A special thank you also goes to those players who helped out the team this week, with every contribution playing an important role in the result.
The defensive unit was once again outstanding, standing strong under pressure and providing plenty of drive from the backline. Ally F led from the front as captain, setting the tone through the midfield with her work rate, leadership and determination around the contest.
Up forward, Nic H continued her remarkable season, bagging five goals and two behinds. Her performance further extends her lead as the competition’s leading goal kicker and continues a season of outstanding form in front of the big sticks.
The 3–2–1 votes went to Grace B, Grace A and Jayde E.
Grace B not only kicked her first AFL goal but continues to show tremendous growth each week, attacking the contest with confidence and making her presence felt around the ground.
Grace A was outstanding on the wing, working hard in both attack and defence, holding her position well and never backing down from a contest.
Jayde E worked tirelessly throughout the day, providing a strong presence in the ruck while also pushing forward and impacting the contest around the ground. With several huge kicks, crunching tackles and relentless effort, she proved a constant headache for Warners Bay.
Players’ Player went to Bianca C, who returned for her first game of the season and made an immediate impact. Dominant in the ruck and dangerous up forward, she controlled key moments around the ground and even bagged herself a goal in the process. We hope to see her back in Port colours again soon, with her skill, strength and versatility adding enormous value to the side.
An all-round team performance and another important win as the women’s team continues to build momentum through the season ⚡
