Another wonderful member has entered the 100 Club this week. Congratulations Kim! ❤️

If you’ve been to a class at The Mat, it’s highly likely you’ll recognise Kim. She brings such a joyous and welcoming presence to the studio, and is often the first to initiate conversation with other members, which is exactly the community essence I want to foster here. I had to include the video of her talking during a push-up; it’s a perfect summation of her bubbly personality and physical strength. Kim always shows up ready to work hard and doesn’t need much convincing to take progressions. Thanks for being in my little community Kim, we love you!

A common misunderstanding is that Pilates is all about that upper abdominal burn and full body shakes, but it’s actually - at its core - all about the spine. We want to be moving the spine in all natural directions as much as we can, and also having the strength to stabilise it. In turn, you’ll get all the abdominal benefits that you’re after without limiting yourself to just one forward-curling movement pattern. It’s cool to be strong, and extra cool to also be mobile 💖

Our beautiful member, Melissa, is the first to reach 100 classes at The Mat. What an amazing milestone!

Melissa joined her first class in my first week of opening, and soon committed herself to 3 classes per week, which increased to 4 at the start of Winter. Melissa’s consistency is so admirable, and shows in how her strength and confidence in her capability has grown. She brings infectious warmth, kindness and an iconic giggle into every class, and her presence is viscerally missed when she’s away. She’s the full package. We love having you here Melissa, thank you for your support ❤️

Inclusivity and open-level classes are often promoted by studios, but then you’ll walk in the door and find that most people in the room fit into a similar demographic. Whether it be the instructors teaching style, the marketing, the location etc. - the studio ends up niching down, and that’s not necessarily a bad business move. BUT, I’m proud to say that The Mat. has remained a *truly* inclusive studio. 🤗

That’s not to say that my teaching style is for everyone - I’ll never promise that - but I have honed the ability to teach a truly mixed-level class, and the crowd has continued to reflect that. You will always be challenged in my classes, but you won’t catch me yelling or shaming. Levels are always considered, progressions and modifications are always offered in a non-judgemental manner, and I can *almost* guarantee that you’ll walk out the door feeling better than you arrived.
