𝐃𝐅𝐂 𝟔𝟏 - 𝐁𝐅𝐂 𝟏𝟒𝟑

The Preliminary Final provided the opportunity to celebrate two fantastic milestones, with Riley “Slick” Mason notching up his 50th quality game and Tim “Itsu” Ioannou playing his 150th game for DFC.

150 games is an outstanding achievement for a champion of the game, and Tim’s professionalism and contribution to all our players has been exceptional. Congratulations to both boys on reaching these great milestones.

Bridgetown came out hot after last week’s trouncing in the second semi-final and looked like a side determined to get revenge. They started with plenty of run and, at times, looked as though they had two extra players on the field, with spare men appearing all over the ground.

We struggled to change our structures quickly enough to stem the constant flow of football towards Bridgetown’s forward line. They had multiple avenues to goal and quickly built a lead that would prove insurmountable, while our boys looked like a side carrying some very heavy legs.

At half-time, Rawso asked the boys to put the first half behind them and concentrate on winning the third quarter, with the aim of pe***ng the margin back and giving ourselves a chance to get back into the contest.

Unfortunately, we just couldn’t nullify the talent and skill Bridgetown showed on the day. To the credit of our boys, though, they continued to fight it out for all four quarters and showed plenty of ticker to win the final quarter despite the sizeable margin.

Rawso was obviously disappointed with the result but was full of praise for the group. Five weeks ago, not many people gave us a chance of making finals, let alone reaching a Preliminary Final.

It has been an injury-riddled year with plenty of setbacks, but the club continued to field three competitive sides every week.

Rawso thanked the playing group for their constant support during his first season as League coach and encouraged everyone to get behind our other sides as they continue their quest for some silverware for the club.

⚡️ 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐄𝐒
𝐃𝐅𝐂 𝟕𝟑 - 𝐓𝐅𝐂 𝟏𝟒

After still licking their wounds from an ordinary hit-out in the last second semi-final, our Reserves boys knew they needed to respond today to redeem themselves.

With Shack and Temps having to make plenty of changes due to players being required for League duties, it was always going to be a tough task to structure a balanced side.

From the first siren, however, we looked much more settled and ready to take on everything Tigers had to throw at us. Some excellent precision by hand and foot allowed us to match the opposition across the ground, and we started to get plenty of value from our forward entries.

With a Grand Final appearance on the line, you could start to feel that the premiers from the past two years were getting their mojo back. We had winners all around the ground and the constant pressure eventually became too much for Tigers to handle.

A comfortable win sees the Reserves earn another opportunity to play for some silverware and keep their premiership hopes alive.

𝐃𝐅𝐂 𝟗𝟕 - 𝐓𝐅𝐂 𝟑𝟔

With nothing separating the top three sides, Dozza knew how important this game was and reiterated to the boys that everyone would need to contribute if we were going to get the win.

From the opening half, we played a much better brand of team football. The match-ups had been well prepared and were working extremely well, with our boys on top in all the main areas. Most importantly, our teamwork was the difference.

The backline was rock solid, the centre group was full of run and the forward line was working in unison, giving us plenty of opportunities going forward.

At half-time, Dozza pleaded with the group to stick to the team rules and remain disciplined. He couldn’t have been happier with the way the boys executed the second half, running the game out in fine style with winners all over the ground.

A fantastic team effort that earns the Colts the right to challenge Southerners for the Colts Premiership. A great reward for a group that has continued to improve throughout the season.

Two sides into the Grand Final, a League side that can hold its head high after a remarkable turnaround. Plenty to be proud of at DFC.

We knew the Second Semi-Final against Bridgetown was going to be a physical outing, and playing them on their home turf made the challenge even greater.

The first quarter was played at a high tempo, but we consistently put ourselves under pressure through poor decision-making and some silly skill errors. These mistakes put us under more pressure than we needed to be in.

In the second quarter, we started to find some cohesion and it looked as though we may have got some of our mojo back. We began matching it with our opposition across the ground and were right in the contest, although our accuracy by hand and foot continued to let us down.

Unfortunately, the last half was a disaster. All the hard work and momentum we had built during the second quarter quickly disappeared, with everything that looked like finals football going straight out the back door.

Too often, players relied on others to do the hard work rather than working hard for their teammates. In finals football, everyone needs to be prepared to do the one-percenters and play their role for the team.

It was a hard game to watch, but the hard work the Reserves boys have put in throughout the year has earned them another opportunity. They now get another chance next week to redeem themselves and have another crack at earning their spot in the big dance.

The season is still alive — now it’s about responding, getting back to the DFC way and making the most of the opportunity in front of them.

⚡️ 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐓𝐒
𝐃𝐅𝐂 𝟑𝟖 - 𝐒𝐅𝐂 𝟓𝟐

The first quarter started with a flurry of goals early, and it looked as though the game might turn into a goal shootout. However, defence soon became the order of the day, with both sides relying on their defenders to take control of the situation.

Both teams, stacked with LSWFL Colts talent, turned the game into a real spectacle and, as the other results showed, it was clearly the game of the day.

The second quarter was much the same, with each side trying to edge ahead and gain some advantage. The constant pressure made scoring extremely difficult, with every major becoming an absolute premium. When opportunities did arise, both sides knew they had to make the most of them.

The second half was an absolute arm wrestle, with both teams waiting to see who would crack first and allow the other to gain the upper hand. Just when it looked as though we had got our balance right and were ready to take it right up to the LSWFL powerhouse Colts side, some actions at vital times proved costly.

One thing Dozza continually asked of the boys was to stay focused, play the DFC way and trust in each other, and we would give ourselves every opportunity to be on the right side of the ledger at the final siren.

For the boys to work themselves into a winning position and then let it slip away will be a valuable learning curve that they need to address quickly as they prepare to take on a very good Tigers side in next weekend’s Preliminary Final.

A week of reflection and focusing on the position they have put themselves in will be a real benefit to this great bunch of young men. There is still plenty to play for, and experiences like this will only help them mature both as footballers and as young men for their future endeavours.

The Hawks took on Imperials in Kojonup in the do or die 1st semi final. If you didn't get to the game you missed out on an absolute classic finals contest, the likes of which may not be seen again for many years.

The boys knew today's game was going to be the toughest of the year so far. The first quarter started in typical finals intensity both teams keen to get a good start. Imperials had the small advantage of a slight breeze but with a shower of rain early, conditions started out slippery. Deanmill skipped out to a 2 goal lead half way through the first but late goals from Imperials saw them take a 2 point lead into the first change. Imperials had a few more opportunities in the second term but Deanmill took their chances kicking ahead to lead by 2 points at the half.

The Hawks seemed to be enjoying the tough contest and knew it would take 4 quarters of finals footy if they wanted to stay alive in 2026. As fate would have it, there would be more than 4 quarters required to decide a victor. The third again close and tough, no team able to get a break of more than a couple of goals. This sounds like copy and paste, but again only 2 points was the margin at the final change. The boys gave absolutely everything in the final quarter, they left nothing on the park and with 2 minutes left had a 1 goal lead. As is the case in finals, Imperials weren't going to give this away kicking a goal with less than a minute to go.

In the final seconds a hurried kick forward by Imperials saw a mark taken right on the siren. A goal would see the scores level, they kicked truly and we were headed for extra time. Five minutes each way with no break in between. The Boys were out on their feet and with momentum against them it would take some real DFC grit to get the job done. Rawso rallied his troops, they were no strangers to the need to win to keep their season alive and now was no different. The back line held under immense pressure in the first 5 minutes keeping Imperials to just 2 points and as we headed into the final 5 minutes the momentum changed. Gaining the centre clearances and continuing to push forward the Hawks finally got a goal on the board to sneak in front. From here they were never letting go, gritty, intense and uncompromising, as they kicked another.

They simply denied Imperials any opportunity in the last 5 minutes and ended up winners by 12 points. What an absolute cracker of a game of football. This is the type of character the Hawks have shown all year and it's exactly what's required as they push further into the finals. A week off for the League boys as the Reserves and Colts suit up in the second semi finals this weekend at Bridgetown.

⚡️ 𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐑𝐒

Our Year 6/7s and Year 8/9s both took on Bridgetown in the First Semi Finals on Saturday. Unfortunately, both teams fell short, bringing their seasons to an end on the same weekend.

While it wasn’t the finish we hoped for, the club couldn’t be prouder of how far these kids have come. The growth across both teams, the way they’ve connected and supported one another, and the respect they show for the game, their teammates and their coaches is something to be incredibly proud of.

Results don’t always tell the full story. The way these kids have represented Deanmill this season makes them winners in our club’s eyes.

Well done to both teams on a fantastic season! We’ll come together to celebrate our juniors and another great year of footy at our Junior Cabaret on 5 September.
