It has been a big but inspiring week for the Ignite community!

We hold Aspire week each year as a mid-term 2 refresh, but also to spark excitement for what is to come. For our Primary School students, having a special guest in each class provided a beautiful window of what is to come! To see the younger dancers so awe-inspired by the Seniors has been so beautiful to see.

For our Senior students, it has been an opportunity to step into the roles of leaders, interacting with the Primary School dancers, sharing wisdom and advice. They also had the opportunity to learn repertoire, dive into characterisation and even develop some of their class exercises.

Last weekend, Ignite dancers performed in the Royal Academy of Dance Festival of Dance, in a range of genres; ballet, contemporary, demi character and repertoire solos. Congratulations to each and every dancer; Annah, Ava, Christiana, Elise, Klara, Olivia and Stella!

Regardless of what you are awarded, stepping out onto a stage to perform a solo, requires immense courage and dedication - these are the skills that are the real achievement!

And a special congratulations goes to Miss Maya and Miss Nicole who are part of the RAD Regional Advisory Panel who make this event possible!

Say improvisation in a dance class and some students want to hide while others cannot wait to begin. So what is all the fuss about, and why do we do it? 🤷‍♀️

Improvisation is the spontaneous creation of movement in the moment, without pre planned steps or set choreography. It is a vital part of dance training that encourages self expression, creativity and individuality. It allows dancers to explore new ideas, take risks and discover their own unique movement style.

Even though improvisation is so valuable, it can feel intimidating. Here are our top tips to make it more approachable and enjoyable.

🌪️ Let go. There is no right or wrong, only exploration.
🪜 Create structure. Set simple guidelines or rules and gradually change how many choices you need to make.
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Work in pairs or small groups. A large class setting can sometimes feel overwhelming.
🕯️ Adjust the environment. Dim the lights or create a more private space to feel safe and focused.

Improvisation is not about being perfect. It is about being present, curious and brave enough to try. Share your favourite improvisation tips below ✨

Creativity is not something we either have or don’t have. It is within all of us, and it grows when we nurture it.

Finding ways to develop creativity is especially important for dancers. Whether it’s moving freely in the studio, drawing, writing, or connecting with nature, taking time to explore and express yourself helps unlock new ideas and deepen your artistry.

Foot articulation is one of our favourite topics! It involves developing control, strength and flexibility in the small intrinsic muscles of the foot.

Why does it matter? Because strong foot articulation helps with:

Landing with control
Strength and stability en pointe
Secure balances and relevés
Creating artistic and elegant lines

We love foot articulation for the way it empowers dancers to move with strength, precision and grace ✨

Big news from us 🧡

Ignite Dance WA is moving to a brand new, purpose-built studio - still in Joondalup, just a couple of streets away at Onslow Place!

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing everything with you. Right now we just wanted you to be the first to know, because our community is the reason we're doing this.
This is a big moment for Ignite, and we genuinely believe it opens up possibilities for our dancers that we haven't been able to offer before. More space. Greater opportunity. The best of everything that makes this place very special.

Stay tuned because there is a lot more to come!
With lots of excitement,
Holly, Jenny and the Ignite team! 🧡

Pyjama Week ✨

Last week was Pyjama Week at Ignite! We had so much fun in class whilst students continued to work hard, learn and grow.

At Ignite, we love incorporating fun weeks and special events throughout the year to help build community, spark joy and create positive memories within the studio 🧡
