Dear Members,
The Board of the Howlong Golf Resort met on Monday evening this week, and appointed Matthew Nunn to be the new General Manager of the Howlong Golf Resort for a Probationary period of 12 months, commencing on Wednesday the 28th of October 2026.
Terms have yet to be agreed but we believe that to be a formality, and those negotiations will be finalized in the next couple of days.
The Board went through an interview process with two highly qualified and capable internal applicants and made their decision allowing time for each Board member to make the best decision for the short and long-term future of the HGR.
Matthew brings over 20 years of hospitality experience to the job, as well as experience in managing a large club in the Canberra area for the Ainslie Group, with staff numbers in excess of 100 people. His most recent work was for the Liverpool Catholic Club working at the Thurgoona Country Club Resort in a management role. He has been at our Club in a Management/HR role for over 12 months.
We look forward to Matthew taking the reins when Nathan leaves us on the 27th of October, following a short but successful term as General Manager and we wish him well as he focuses on his health and wellbeing following many challenges over his term of office. We thank Nathan for his short but successful tenure with us as GM.
We also look forward to all members making the transition to Matthew’s leadership seamless and positive. Please welcome him to his new role when you meet him on your next visit to the Club. Alannah Cusack will continue in her role as Operations Manager and will have the opportunity to learn and grow in the business as she takes on some of the roles that Matthew will need to hand over.
Regards,
Henk van de Ven
President
On behalf of the Board of Howlong Golf Resort
