This year’s Floros Medallist, as Rockets Player of the Year, is Sam Dwyer.
This award caps what has been a stellar 3-year period in Sam’s career. Although Sam debuted for the Rockets in 2014, and was a member of the 2018 title winning-squad, he missed selection to be on-court in decisive matches in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
Following stellar performances in 2023 Nationals round stage matches, Sam earnt selection to be on-court for the Rockets 2023 title win, and carried that level onwards, winning back-to-back titles in 2024 and earning a maidan Australian Men’s call-up for the Tri-Nations Series in Adelaide.
2025 saw Sam become a key figure in the Rockets, bowling crucial overs and often batting in the final pair, getting the Rockets across the line on several occasions, including a hitting a memorable “9” in the final over against Victoria.
In the Major Semi, Sam was a key performer with the bat and ball, and produced a stellar run out to swing momentum in the Rockets favour. In the Grand Final, two wickets, including one off the final ball of the 8th over, put the Rockets in the box seat for their third consecutive Australian Championship.
Off the back of his performances, Sam was selected to the Australian Men’s team to play in his first Indoor Cricket World Cup. In his World Cup debut, he produced a Player of the Match performance against South Africa, and was crowned a World Champion as Australia defeated New Zealand in the Final in Colombo in October.
Sam is the ultimate team player, who has worked tirelessly to improve, both in the gym and on-court. He is someone who will always show up for the team, would never ask you to do something he wouldn’t, and will be the first to lift up a teammate who is down.
It is an absolute pleasure to announce Sam as this year’s Billy Floros Medallist — congratulations legend! 🚀⭐️
