17/05/2026
As the 2025/2026 Speedway season comes to an end, we’ve had time to reflect on what has been another massive season for Pitcher Racing.
Our season started early in August 2025 with 7 huge nights of racing at Northline Speedway for Duel in the North, the NT Wingless Title and Chariots of Thunder. From there, we went on to race across South Australia and Victoria with 17 nights at our home track Murray Machining & Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway, along with Borderline Speedway, Timmis Speedway, Tolmer Speedway, Whyalla Speedway and Premier Speedway.
Driver appearances for the season:• Sharni – 16 nights• Mason – 12 nights• Robert – 8 nights• Brett – 2 nights
Like every Speedway season, there were definitely some nights we’d rather forget, but there were also plenty of good results, memories and laughs along the way.
People often ask us why we do it. The answer is simple — we love Speedway and we love our club. The friendships made through Speedway are lifelong and every season reminds us why this sport means so much to us.
This year we were lucky enough to meet Peter Hanmer, better known as “Gromitnation” from England, who was an absolute champion and someone we’re very glad to now call a Speedway friend.
There were plenty of highlights throughout the season:• Some good results •Mason’s boys helping wash the cars the morning after race meetings• Incredible 360-degree footage captured by New Light Media• Pitcher Racing receiving a Recognition Award from South Australian Wingless Sprints (AWSSA)• Venturing to Darwin again and catching up with Speedway friends• Many nights at the track and in the shed Barry Merritt, Kevin Griffith, Mason Merritt, Robert Heard Brandon Carroll, Tyson Borollo and Stewart Heard.
One moment that will always be incredibly special to our family was the Murray Bridge Sporting Car Club and Motorcycle Club members voting to place a sign naming the track run-off road in the pits Merritt Drive, honouring past and present members of the Merritt family who have contributed so much to the club:Peter Merritt (Little Foss), Brian Merritt (Big Foss), Barry Merritt and Sonya.
To have our family recognised in that way means more than words can say, and we are truly honoured.
Lastly, to all of our sponsors, supporters, family, crew, club volunteers and fellow competitors — thank you. Your support, encouragement and help throughout the season never goes unnoticed. Speedway is a team effort and we are incredibly grateful to have such wonderful people around us.
That’s a wrap on 2025/2026. Time to freshen up the cars and get ready to do it all again next season.
