Half day update..

Cooper ripped from 17th to 10th in 4th heat and secured a spot in the final👍starting 17th

Kai did a safe 8th to 5th in his 4th heat. Will start the final out of pole with a small points buffer to 2nd and 3rd.

Gooood Morning. About to start final day of SA titles.

Yesterday Cooper had his 2nd and 3rd heats. Went wrong direction with set up for 2nd heat.. started 13 finished 14th. Changed set up for 3rd Heat and was on the pace. started 3rd, was running 4th but got caught behind mistake from kart in front, bogged down and dropped to 8th on last lap🤷‍♂️ Hoping for better luck in 4th heat today to make the final🤞

Kai had 3 heats. 15-7 in 1st Heat (had actually got to 3rd but last lap incident dropped him back to 7th). 1-1 in 2nd heat. 8-2 in 3rd Heat. If 4th heat goes smoothly today he is a good chance of starting final from pole🤞

Race report for the last couple of weeks.

Last weekend we raced at Lucindale. Small noms so a fun relaxing day where we were happy to test/try a few things. Kai even started rear of field all night.
Cooper won all three heats that he finished.. dnf in one heat when a kart spun and he had nowhere to go.. then won the final so still got 2nd for the day.
Kai was points leader going into the final but had a dnf in the final. Still got 3rd overall.

This weekend we raced at Adelaide Dirt Kart Club for the 2nd round of the JKC Junior Kart Championships.

Cooper had a good night moving forward in 3 heats and held his position (2nd) in the other heat. Started the final 5th. Copped a good shunt from behind in the 2nd corner but that actually ended up working in his favour and exited in 4th. Finished 4th pressuring Haydos for all 8 laps👍

Kai also had a pretty good night but we were missing a bit early on set up, and also just didn't quite have the luck go his way in a few scenarios throughout the night particularly in the first lap of the final (both times..🙃) Started the final 6th and finished 5th.

Special mention to Brock and Oscar for the photo bomb at presentations 😄😄

Grand Annual Dirt Kart Masters report:

Before we get to the racing - we are so proud to be involved with one of the most prestigious kart races in Australia - all done by our little country based Tatiara Karting Club. Our whole club invests so much time and effort in the lead up, so it is very rewarding when the event is so successful 👍

Also thanks to Ace Coote Photography for the photos. Your lensmanship (not sure that's a word but I am going with it😄) is second to none. Not only that, we are proud to value you as a friend 👍. Love the photo of Kai with Cooper hanging over the gate watching in the background!!

And to mum/wife/team member Terri - your effort and commitment to being head lap scorer is amazing and the results are always spot on. Sometimes it means you miss out on actually watching your own kids race.. we love you and appreciate your efforts.

Now for the racing..

Cooper raced in a capacity field of 40 KT Lights. In such a competitive field, every last detail counts and unfortunately we were just a smidge off on outright speed with the kart and also got caught up in a couple of other incidents that were unavoidable. That being said he raced well and brought it home in the top half of the field in 18th.

Kai raced in a field of 28 Junior Heavies. This was our first event at our home track with the extra weight on.. we were a tiny tiny bit down on speed on Saturday but made a change for Sunday that got him on par with the other top few competitors. Started the final 4th and finished 2nd which got him to 3rd overall and on the podium.

As a bonus Kai now holds the track record for both Junior Lights (29.177 May 2022) and Junior Heavies (29.980 March 2023) (The track records posted on the TKC page are 2023 only...) I reckon the Heavies record will get altered as this year goes on... but the Lights record might stand for a while😉

Welcome back everyone! Our dirt karting season has kicked off.

A couple of weeks age we had our first club show at Tatiara Karting Club .

Excellent start to the year with Cooper finishing 2nd in KT Light and Kai getting a narrow win in Junior Light.

This weekend we travelled to Yorke Peninsula Dirt Kart Club for the first round of the 2023 Load 28 JKC Junior Kart Championships.

Cooper gets to compete in this again this year with the introduction of a KT Junior class for ages 16 and under. This field has all the leading juniors from the last couple of years and is going to be very competitive.

Cooper was quick all night (easily in top 5 contention based on pace.) but got a bit unlucky with 2 dnf's in the heats... Dnf, 2, dnf, 7 in the heats had him starting from 13th in the final. Had a good start but then got out in the loose stuff in the first turn and was 15th at the end of the first lap. He managed to recover a few spots for 11th.

Kai made the decision to sacrifice the Australia #2 from Junior Lights and step up the the Junior Heavy class to challenge himself against a greater depth of speed/experience in this class before stepping up to seniors at the end of this year.

He had a great start with a convincing win in the first heat. Got caught up in a incident in the second heat and headed infield over the windrow, then recovered to 6th. Won the 3rd heat and 3rd in the last heat.

Started the final 2nd and finished a close second behind Hilton.

Now looking forward to this weekend - one of the biggest dirt kart events on our calendar The Grand Annual Dirt Kart Masters.

Race meeting #21
An epic day at the skids!! And a massive return to form after a lacklustre race meeting last week.

Yesterday we raced at our home track - Tatiara Karting Club for the final round of the 2022 JKC Junior Kart Championships

Cooper raced in a competitive field of 16 KT Lights with good heat results - 3-1, 12-4, 5-3 and 10-4. Was lucky to win the first heat with a lack of speed, but we worked on setup over the next couple and had it pretty good by the end. Cooper also just looked comfortable and was driving good lines and picking the gaps when needed, which was great to see.

Started final out of position 3. On the first lap 1st and 2nd spun themselves out. Cooper emerged 2nd and finished 2nd. Had enough points up his sleeve to end up taking out the overall win🙂 Cooper turned 15 earlier in the week so this was a pretty cool birthday present. Speaking of presents - see below digitaly altered photo his cousin gave him.

Kai competed in a big field of 29 Junior Lights, so two random split fields of 14/15. Heat results - 12-3, 2-1, 9-2 and 5-4. Dad left a bit on the table with the tune up in the last heat, but he managed to bring it home safely to qualify on pole for the final. At this stage of the night the nerves were starting to take hold a bit, as a win would secure not only the round win, but also the overall championship.

Started 1st in the final. Missed the jump a bit and fell to 2nd but regained the lead in the second corner and then drove away from the pack for the win.

Also won the JKC championship and the $1000 prize/frame from BRK Karts 👍With two dnf's in earlier rounds we needed everything to go right in the final two rounds to get it done and luckily enough that happened.
