Why many children play sport/soccer:
A child doesn’t come to training or to soccer to perfect your training session .
They come because football feels like freedom, its enjoyable.
▪. For one hour, life makes
sense.
▪ No pressure. No grades.
▪ Just movement, laughter
& a sense of belonging.
▪. They come to see friends.
▪. To be seen.
▪. To feel part of
something .
▪. Sometimes, because
home isn’t easy.
▪. Sometimes, because it’s
the only place they feel
valued.
How we make them feel when they arrive & when they're on the training sometimes means the world to them. Don't underestimate it or make light of it.
If the session ends and they leave smiling, we’ve succeeded, we've already won.
We talk a lot about "development”, remember what's important. We have to teach them more than just skills, techniques or tactics.
Life matters. Life skills matters. If players are dishonest & we don't do enough to change their behaviour, we are not developing them.
If they don't learn to be humble in both winning & losing, we're not developing them.
If we're not teaching them that others matter & progressing in their personal & family life, we're not developing them
We have to do more. Sport is more than just the game.
So next time they show up late, distracted, or unmotivated, remember they still showed up. When they're with us, let's leave them a little better.
That’s where it begins. So let every session be one of making more than just a football/training session. Effect change!
