Makana boxers participated in the "Ziyabila Zibondiwe" Showtime Promotions at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

The boxers displayed impressive physical fitness, evidence of their training camps' effective preparation.

Although the results did not favour us, we appreciate the efforts of Matchmaker Mr Luyanda Kana and Promoter Ms Mbali Nxonxo Zantsi in organizing a well-structured Zantsi Showtime tournament, providing our boxers with valuable experience.

As students of the game, we understand that success is a gradual process that requires persistence and dedication.

Our 2026 Women's Tournament was a resounding success, extending beyond the realm of boxing to empower and prepare young women and youth for life.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to our esteemed speakers for their invaluable contributions to nation-building, a testament to the adage 'it takes a village to raise a child.'

A special thank you to the ring officials, coaches, and participating clubs, including Bhofolo BC from Fort Beaufort, Dangerous Darkies BC from Bathurst, Mali Boxing Academy from Bathurst, and Sisonke BC from Mdantsane, kuGompo City.

We are also deeply grateful to our main sponsor, Star Bread Grahamstown, and supporting organizations, such as Hi-Tech Security, Sophumelela Youth Development, Pepper Grove Pick & Pay, VIP Boxing & Conditioning, and Makana Municipality for providing the venue.

We eagerly anticipate the 2027 edition.

Paul "Big Bear" Davies, a distinguished international coach at our gym, has an impressive boxing background. His father was a national coach.

Paul began his boxing career in Britain in 1975. He secured the British Defense Force heavyweight championship title in 1981, 1982, and 1983. He also won the West Germany championship in 1985, 1986, and 1987.

Big Bear participated in the Euro Bundas League as a light heavyweight and represented his country in six international competitions. His record comprises 168 fights, with 142 wins and 26 losses.

He qualified as a coach, judge, and referee in 1984. We are delighted to introduce Coach P to Mzansi , a key member of our coaching team for several years.

We observed Freedom Day at Kwa Gompo City yesterday. Mdantsane's Sisonke Boxing Club organized its annual Women Tournament at NU6 Mall.

Our boxers competed evenly and acquired valuable game time in preparation for our 16th May 2026 Women Tournament.

The bout between Esona "The General" Peter and Aphelele Nduneni was deemed the best elite bout of the tournament, with both recipients receiving R500.00 grocery vouchers from Spar.

We thank the hosts and it's partners for a well organized tournament with prizes. We also thank Beer Properties for sponsoring our transport costs.
