"Holcombe Inherits Wi******er Modified Mafia Win Following Post Race DQ's"
"Brannon Family Stars in Pure Stock, RUSH Late Models, McCollum Legends Ace"
By Doug Watson
Wi******er VA, It would be a bittersweet trip to Victory Lane for Elm City North Carolina's Austin Holcombe Saturday night at Wi******er Speedway as he would collect the $3000 top prize in the 30-lap Modified Mafia tour event.
Logan Roberson, fresh off his RUSH Late Model win the weekend prior, would earn the pole for the start of the event steering his Elite Chassis No.5 for owners Glenn and Stephanie Elliott. Roberson jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and would eventually lead the distance over eventual runner-up Austin Holcombe who had climbed from his 7th starting spot. After the event was completed a post race inspection found the wheelbase of Roberson's machine non-compliant to the series rulebook and would eventually be disqualified. Holcombe would then be declared the winner as the balance of the field would move up one finishing position.
"I hate to win a race that way, but it's black and white in the rules with wheelbase measurements and he was short." Holcombe explained. "Now was that the way he beat me? no, he was just better than us. I hate it for Glenn and Logan whether it was by accident or on purpose it's still a tough deal but my car was right, and if the tables were turned, I'd expect the same thing to be done to me." Despite the fact, the win came off disqualification, Austin was pleased with his first ever Wi******er feature win. "Wi******er owed me one and we finally got it, not really the way I wanted to win, but I will take it." 12th starting Michael Altobelli secured second, Ray Kable III took 3rd, Mikey Corbin was 4th with 9th starting Cody Williams completing the top five. Heats went to Kable, Holcombe and Cody Williams.
Devin Brannon continued his stellar campaign with his 4th win of the season in the 20 lap RUSH Late Model feature. Brannon, the current division points leader, shot into the lead from his second starting spot on the first lap and held off defending track champion Davin Kaiser to secure the win aboard his Provinzino Race Cars No.137. "We were really good tonight." Brannon stated post race. "We put a whole new setup on for the feature and it was on point." Kristopher Hutton, Bubby Tharp Jr and Steven Powell would round out the top five. Heats went to Brannon and Kaiser.
Keeping it in the family, Allen Brannon scored his 2nd win of the season in the 15 lap Pure Stock feature. Following Brannon to the checkered flag were BJ Jenkins Jr, defending track champion Walter Crouch, Trent Holmes and 8th starting Rob Nichols. Heats went to Brannon and Jenkins.
Current East Coast Legends point leader Alex McCollum took his first win this season in the divisions 15 lap contest. Jeremy Hahn, Shaun Abney, Justin Wagaman and defending track champion Mike Mohelski would complete the top five. Heats went to McCollum, Hahn and Connor Tracy.
