If you couldn’t get groceries for a week, would your family have enough at home? 🤔
That’s something worth thinking about when you see headlines like these.
A natural disaster, a bad storm, civil unrest, or another unexpected disruption could make it difficult to get food and everyday necessities. If grocery shelves emptied quickly or deliveries were delayed, what would you already have on hand?
At Survival Ridge, we suggest starting with a simple goal: enough food, drinking water, and basic necessities for your household to get through at least one week.
You can build that supply a few items at a time, including everyday foods from your grocery store:
🥫 Canned vegetables, beans, soups, and chili
🐟 Canned tuna, chicken, and other meats
🥜 Peanut butter, nuts, and trail mix
🍯 Honey, sugar, and salt
🍚 Rice, pasta, dried beans, and oatmeal
🥛 Shelf-stable or powdered milk
🍎 Dried fruit, crackers, and granola bars
Include foods you can eat without cooking, and keep a manual can opener handy. Foods like rice, pasta, and dried beans also need water and a way to cook them.
Choose things your family actually eats, check the dates, and use and replace the oldest items first.
Think beyond the pantry, too. Drinking water, flashlights, batteries, first aid supplies, hygiene items, warm blankets, and pet food all deserve a place in your plan.
None of us knows exactly what the coming weeks or months will bring. Having a few basics ready can give you some peace of mind.
At Survival Ridge Trading Post, we carry long-term food, water filtration, flashlights, outdoor lighting, fire-starting supplies, and more. Stop in if you’d like help getting started.
