Anglers of South Louisiana is a nonprofit club formed in 2009, whose purpose is to promote and encourage youth fishing through education of fishing ethics, sportsmanship, fishing techniques and conservation of our natural resources. To fulfill all responsibilities, we owe to our community, our state, and our society to help maintain natural fishing resources. Anglers membership is for kids ages 7
through 18, competing in their respective age groups of 7-10, 11-14, 15-18. The competition program mirrors the BASS Nation tournament structure. The clubs goal is to educate our youth and allow our youth to operate the club while having the supervision and coordination of our adult executive board mentoring them along with Nation anglers. Throughout the year, our junior members gain skills from how-to clinics, educational workshops based on conservation, good fishing ethics, catch and release and habitat restoration. Our club holds ten to twelve local tournaments, monthly meetings and an annual awards banquet. The most dynamic and exciting opportunity is that BASS and BASS Nation have created a Junior Bassmasters program. Just like competing in the BASS Nation club tournaments, this program allows junior members to compete at a club level, ultimately qualifying for their Bassmaster Junior Championship. They learn the elements that are central to the passionate Nation membership. This will provide our youth with a firsthand look at competition venues they can pursue when they reach their high school, college and adult competition age. High School competitors who emerge as the top-performing angler in his or her state will advance to one of six Nation divisions. Our Junior state competition is held at rotating lake locations throughout Louisiana and has been recognized for its organization and promotion of the talents of our area youth. Again, this year, it will be a two-day event with the kick-off and the promenade of pros and youth anglers. It is a high visibility event with media, and national exposure through BASS and the BASS Nation. In the last years, our very own members have won or placed in each age group with several youth moving on to the Divisional Championship and even the National and World Championships. Our support and promotion of our youth includes educating our members on how to organize and run the meetings, we bring in local advisors, guests from local businesses, and provide family cookouts after several tournaments. Our doors are open to all youth, and we greatly appreciate are sponsors. We have had a wonderful showing of support and we believe in reciprocating the generosity.
