Today, the diving community bids farewell to a true pioneer.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Zale Parry (1933–2026)—an extraordinary explorer, educator, conservationist, and one of the most influential women in the history of scuba diving.

At a time when few women were recognized in the underwater world, Zale broke barriers with courage, determination, and grace. She inspired generations of divers through her passion for exploration, her commitment to marine conservation, and her tireless dedication to sharing the wonders of the ocean. Through underwater photography, filmmaking, public speaking, and mentoring new divers, she helped shape the sport we know and love today.

Her legacy extends far beyond the records she set or the honors she received. It lives on every time a new diver takes their first breath underwater, every time someone chooses to protect our oceans, and every time the spirit of adventure draws us beneath the surface.

The scuba community has lost a legend, but her influence will continue to inspire divers around the world for generations to come.

Fair seas and following currents, Zale. Thank you for opening the door to the underwater world for so many of us. Your legacy will forever be a part of every dive.

Rest in peace, Zale Parry. 1933–2026.
