We had a great class tonight. Repetition is the key. From the day ones to the first day, everyone got work. As a coach, it's such a great feeling to see the drills making sense while sparring!

I will never officiate anything more than local shows and this is the reason. It is hard enough to not coach up young fighters while being in the ring with them. It's even harder when they get overwhelmed and I have 10 seconds to hope they regain their focus. I can't stop and encourage them. I can't call time to give them words of encouragement. I can't allow the coach to talk to them, in hopes the nerves settle. My job as an official is to follow the rules, keep the fight fair, keep the fighters safe.

Lord knows it's hard to watch a young fighter allow the fear to take over and all I can do is give them 10 seconds.

Fighters from across Louisiana will compete for a full weekend of amateur boxing right here in our community.
