This is a song was inspired by Dolly Parton, on the date of her passing. Dolly’s humanitarian projects are highlighted, including the Irish branch of her “Imagination Library.” The book referred to is “Selfish Giant” as written by Oscar Wilde — which is the last book Irish children receive from Dolly’s Imagination Library upon their graduation.

This is a song was inspired by Dolly Parton, on the date of her passing. Dolly’s humanitarian projects are highlighted, including the Irish branch of her “Imagination Library.” Some of Dolly’s hit songs and favorite slogans are mentioned, along with how she opened career doors for female songwriters. The song style is a country-folk waltz; intimate at first, gradually opening into gospel and Irish communal singing, with some light rock dance breaks and an emotional farewell.

This song "Mind Yourself" was written and is sung by myself in a bar and is from my musical in development, Exalted. It uses a traditional Irish style plus electric bass guitar.

The slogan "Mind Yourself" is common in Ireland, to mean "Take good care of yourself" or "Be careful." The photos show the beauty of the Irish countryside, both in the rain and the sun, and the warmth of its people.

My performance video for “Love Like That: a tribute to Dolly Parton” is up at https://youtu.be/IGF4BrldOrA?si=txyhdbB3Af8kCwfT. If you subscribe, there’s also a karaoke version for anyone wanting to practice or perform this song.

In writing “Love Like That” on the day of Dolly’s passing, I included lyrics about her humanitarian works and her support of female artists. A few of my favorite couplets are:

“Lyrics travel farther than
The one who wrote them ever planned.”

“God won’t measure what a life is worth
By who has less or who has more.”

“Love like that doesn’t up and leave.
It gets passed along to you and me.”

It would change my life if you could listen to my song and like, comment or follow me.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

A glance at my developing musical — EXALTED. In this scene, Cara considers the book-banning and violence in her daughter’s school, deciding whether relocation is best for her family. Thanks

I'm thrilled that my musical in development EXALTED now has a completed script for both a one-act and full-scale musical production. Vocal scores (lead sheets) are complete for 10 songs. The Springer Music page will host performance videos from the show on an on-going basis.

EXALTED is a contemporary family musical in which an American family encounters Irish mythology; where lore, history, and chance encounters strengthen their connection.

Exalted follows CARA, JACK, and their daughter EMMY as an active-shooter drill in Minnesota shatters the family’s “We’re Fine” motto and sets them on a path to Ireland, where Goddesses BRIGID and MÓRRÍGAN expose truths the family has been avoiding. What begins as an escape from violence and patriarchy becomes the family’s salvation through honesty and trust. At the heart is a mother-daughter relationship: Can CARA stop turning her fear into control before EMMY turns pain into self-harm?

Thanks to Sheri Sanders, dramaturg, and Bryan Mullen, pianist.

Directed by Nancy Matican-Bock

This summer’s Readers’ Theater collection explores the beautifully messy experience of being human — finding connection, rediscovering identity, and navigating change through humor, heart, nostalgia, and hope.

Featuring an eclectic combination of original ten-minute musicals and ten-minute plays from writers around the world, the evening celebrates diverse voices, styles, and perspectives through intimate storytelling.

Set against the backdrop of summertime adventures and seasonal rituals — from beaches, baseball fields, swimming pools, vacations, bike rides, hurricanes, Comic-Con gatherings, and backyard conversations to wildflowers by the shore — these stories are bonded by the spirit of summer itself: a season of movement, transformation, freedom, and unexpected connection.

From outsiders creating art together in Look Inside, to women redefining freedom in Lady Balls, to fathers bonding over trampolines, empty nesters reclaiming themselves, comic-con dreamers, existential seagulls, and unexpected romances, each piece examines what happens when ordinary people are pushed gently—or hilariously—outside of their comfort zones.

Though varied in style and setting, the collection is united by themes of resilience, self-discovery, community, and the courage to embrace new beginnings at every stage of life.

Starring:

Stefani Bush, Sophie Courtois, Ayden Eller, Jody Hatcher, Liz Keimer, Nancy Matican-Bock, Katie McCall, Doug Rauscher, & James Scrivener.
