❤️💙Today, Washington Canoe Club paddlers gathered to send off Ka Pueo (the owl) and Kai Kuahine (little sister) to their new home.

These Force5s are more than canoes. Ka Pueo was WCC’s first OC-6, arriving in the late 1990s, followed shortly by Kai Kuahine. For nearly two decades, they carried our crews through countless practices, races, long trips to Wilson, and victories up and down the East Coast and in California and Hawaii.

They helped build the foundation of WCC’s outrigger program and the team we are today.

So many memories and history in every stroke.

While we say goodbye, we’re happy these canoes will continue their journey at the Lake Champlain Outrigger Canoe Club.

Share your stories in the comments and let’s celebrate the legacy of these two special canoes! 🌊

A little cross-training for Chattajack! Sydney and Sara traded the water for the trails this weekend, completing the Rocky Gap 50K Trail Relay in Maryland. Nice work, ladies! 💪

Good morning friends.
As of this morning we have new locks installed at the WCC building. The center door and the new downstream door (near the cement pad where the Porto potties used to live) are now both pinned to accept your WCC key. Huge thanks to Dan Havens for getting this done!
What we would now Like members to do, is go down to the club and make sure your key works in the new locks. We would expect that out of the 200+ member keys out in circulation that some
of them won’t work. We will issue you a new key if yours does not work. So over the next days and weeks if you are at the club; even if the club is open when you are there please make sure your key unlocks both doors.
If your key works then please start using the amenities of the new building. Please use the inside changing rooms, bathrooms and showers and weightroom. Fill your water bottles with clean water from the utility sink (not the hose!) but please do NOT put boats in the boathouse yet. There will be messaging in the coming weeks about boats in the boathouse.
Thanks Dano!

A huge thank you to Dan Havens and Kelly Rhodes for volunteering their time to lead a steering clinic today for our women’s team. What makes the Washington Canoe Club so special is this exact culture: experienced paddlers sharing their knowledge and wisdom with teammates. We appreciate you! ❤️💙
