A huge welcome to Amos Gillingham and family to the University of Mary Washington and Mother’s Rugby as our team preps for fall 2026!

Amos stands 5’11”, weighing 165lbs. He will likely play back row or ho**er at UMW. He has a great rugby resume playing at Lymm Rugby Club Academy and Seniors most recently, and Lymm High School first XV. Amos also played for Woolston Rugby League Club academy.

His teams won their Portugal tournament in 2023, Cheshire Cup winners 2024, national schools quarter finalists 2024 and completed a successful Spain tour in 2025.

Amos is a Sale Sharks fan and Warrington Wolves Rugby League supporter. In his free time he is a like soccer, enjoys skiing and loves to camp / hike and travel.

At UMW he will study Environmental Science, with a focus on environmental geology.

At Western Suburbs 50th Anniversary Gala last night it was awesome to see that 2 of the 4 honorees were UMW (MWC!) alums.

Greg “Elvis” Hough was inducted into their Hall of Fame with many nice things said for his 30 years of repping the team. Jon Carter was honored as a Lifetime Member for over 25 years of service and leadership at all club levels.

UMW and Mother's Rugby welcome Malvin Onye to our class of 2030. Malvin is graduating from Jeppe High School for Boys in Johannesburg SA soon and will arrive in Fredericksburg in August.

Malvin has featured for Jeppe's A-side and been involved with their firsts and seconds, growing into bigger roles throughout the school year. In this past season he was named as a reserve to the first side a number of times.

In 2024 Malvin played in the Noord vs Suid (North vs South) National Tournament where he gained valuable experience. He has been part of the Jeppe program since he was with their u15’s.

His strengths include work in line-outs, strong ball carrying skills and he prides himself on his defensive work all over the field which is very evident in his games.

We look forward to seeing him on campus and on the field.

This is what UMW Rugby is all about!

On a day when we have half the team prepping to play St Joe’s first side (go team!) ….

…. We have our first side volunteering at the Rappahannock Education Farm doing real work. This school year the guys have helped grow thousands of pounds of food that is distributed in the region to families for FREE.

After 3-4 strenuous hours of getting dirty - the firsts will be at the field cheering on their friends vs St Joe’s. Great chance for the guys to show what they can do against an excellent team.
