Since 2015 Dance Loft has made our home in a former 1920’s art-deco movie theater in uptown 14th Street NW. This building has been a place for the arts for nearly 100 years, and its unique beauty has been part of why we knew this was the place to put down roots. After nearly a century of deferred maintenance, however, our building’s structural needs are escalating fast — faster than we could ever

address or afford. At the same time, DC faces a crisis of affordable housing, particularly for multigenerational families. Dance Loft on 14 has started the process of creating a new home for our artists and for many of our neighbors. Over the course of the last year, we were able to purchase our building, and are now working to create a new mixed-use building with world-class arts and dance spaces on the ground floor and deeply affordable housing, including much-needed 3-bedroom apartments, above. Our new “Green Arts Campus” will have net-zero carbon emissions, and help achieve the city’s ambitious goals for art space, deeply affordable housing, and climate neutrality. We have chosen acclaimed green building and affordable housing experts Heleos Development as our partner for our project. See more details about the project danceloft14.org.

Fishbowl Friday: Contemporary Ballet Recap!

Royce Zackery, known for his high-intensity classes and imaginative choreographic creations, taught a fun (and challenging) contemporary ballet phrase to a jam-packed class! His combination of ballet and contemporary movements allow for dancers to explore the depths of their training, pushing them to go past what they think they’re capable of. As a firm believer in knowledge is power, Royce is constantly teaching and encouraging his students to try new things that will expand their horizons–don't miss out on your chance to learn from him this Summer!

Join us for our Final Fishbowl Friday in our Spring Season!

Celebrate the start of Summer with a Contemporary Ballet workshop taught by Royce Zackery. Expect to work in this workshop, as Royce takes ballet and transforms it into modern day movement. You’ll experience a bit of everything in this class– it’s the culmination of who Royce Zackery is and what he’s accomplished! You’ll finish out the night with some of Royce’s own choreography, so bring an open mind and a water bottle, because trust us–you’ll need it 😉

This weekend, Dance Loft on 14’s School is thrilled to present the beloved, family-friendly ballet Peter & the Wolf in our very own black box theater!

Act I, Peter and the Wolf: Watch our Upper School students and trainees bring these playful and memorable characters to life through dynamic storytelling and movement. Act II will feature a vibrant mixed repertoire, including classical variations, contemporary works, and our new Adult Spring Performance Group, showcasing the range and artistry of our school!
