We are heartbroken by the ICE detention of Benazir Noorzad, a former member of our YWCA Tulsa family.

Benazir came to the U.S. seeking safety from Afghanistan and is now facing the terrifying possibility of being returned to a country where her family fears her life would be in danger.

This is personal. Benazir is someone we know, someone we worked alongside and someone we care about.

We stand with Benazir and her family in calling for compassion, dignity and due process.

Benazir Noorzad, an Afghan asylum seeker and county human resources employee, was detained at Detroit Metro Airport, raising fears for her safety if deported.
