Last Weekend was AMAZING!!
Claire and Robert held a Competitive GRRRLs clinic in Saturday that had 9 GRRRLs!! Amazing!! Ages from 9yr old to 70 s!!
We had Martha( Ann Arbor Dueling Society/ TCFC ) Chole B (GRAFA)!! And from TCFC: Maddy 9yr, Emee, Ashley, Evie Addy Aila!!!
At the clinic one of the overarching themes was getting uncomfortable- how do you respond!! We did this through a couple games/ exercises like being able to embody/ mimic an animal as a group like a Hawk, Frog( Chole was very in tune with this the Frog!) or Tigress( Martha s New Spirit Animal!! Emee’s too!!) to Blindfolded drills!! Everyone felt at unease with this exercise but gained a lot from talking about the role if Self Trust and being ok with being in the unknown/ uncomfortable space. Chole got insight into something her coach have been working on!!
Lots of bonding through the experience! Plus trusting themselves to talk about their weaknesses, failures, strengths in a format where they empower themselves from failure/ grow from sharing as opposed to being beaten down!!
We also worked on the importance of check/ half steps, attack into prep, and did situational bouting timed forcing the tactical game!!
Super Hot day they all pushed hard than went to the beach!! Thank you to Julie for bring tons of snacks!!

Next day was Martha’s day!!
We revealed a banner for Martha Griffin placing 8th place at the Summer National Championship s in Vet 70 and Earning her E after Fencing 24yrs!! That Demonstrate s her DETERMINATION, SELF TRUST and LOVING the PROCESS!! Your AMAZING Martha!! We feel fortunate to have you as part of our COMP TEAM!!
This is ONLY the BEGINNING of YOUR JOURNEY!! ( Meaning we’re going to get you on that strength training program!! Like it or not!! HA!!)?

Hey All!!
Henry and Emery both went to Northwestern’s Fencing Camp last week and had a blast!! Henry went last year!! Emery first year!! Henry took extensive notes on group/ personal drills that we will incorporate to stimulate our practice and expand our horizons!! Plus, Henry learned how emotional engagement is critical to doing well in both bouts one should win easily and to really tough bouts…
Em already seems more Self- Confident from her experience… plus she made friends with Grrrls she didn’t know before who fence in our region, so now she has friends at comps who aren’t from our club!! So Good!!
Thanks to all the people at Northwestern janitors, cooks cleaning people, dishwashers, administrative staff, counselors, coaches..etc!! We appreciate you all!!

Hey Everyone!!
Extremely exciting news from Portland OR at the Summer National Championships!!
Martha Griffen-aka The SleepingTigress! Pounced her way into the R8 with strong indicators in pools snd a spectacular moment in R16 OT 7-7 where she was sleeping- really tired- than in her words “felt a burst of energy” and pounced on her opponent to score the winning touch!! Earning her way for the first time at a National into R8 and Earning her E!! Unfortunately she lost R8 to the eventual winner of the comp!! Evan and Dale were there to support/coach Martha which is awesome!
Martha is a True Fighter with Loads of Emotional Resilience!! She keeps showing up with Determination and Patience( her words) not matter the results….we all look up to her immensely because of these qualities and her smile that’s always there!! Thank You Martha for all your support of our club over the years and it’s an Honor to coach/ support you!! You Rock!!
