We've got bulls! Most are just under 12 months, 5 have had thier Breeding Soundness Exams already, and are ready for new homes. Most people who know us know we sell them all by yearlings, since we only use AI or embryos. All these bulls are AI sired, registered, and come from deep within our genetics. We have been breeding, using only AI, for almost 20 years now. We have purebred & SimAngus. Sires include Anthem, Patriot, Fort Knox, Tejas, Money Maker, Hard Knox, St. Mark, and more. Bulls that are calving ease and bulls that will produce pounds at weaning. Prices start at 5k. SW MO between Springfield and Joplin. I'll try to add a video on the comments.

More complaining... can summer just be over? 6 live ones on the ground now, and having to go out every few hours to check that they are not crashing in the sun (do you see the temp?). Did I mention our "due dates" don't start until 9/15? Trying to use our time wisely, and since it's too hot to do any physical labor, we decided to bring home some of our hay from the other farm. At least we have hay, right? We still need another 100 in inventory to be safe for this winter. I need to get some pictures of our yearling bulls so I can get them sold. They spend most of thier day in the shade. Can't say I blame them!

I know I'm not alone when complaining about this, but man, this calving season stinks so far! 5 calves on the ground, and the first one isn't due until 9/15. No real measurable rain since July 8th. The grass is like straw, so we started dropping supplemental feed every night now. It's hotter than hades out there. Early babies are difficult to manage, you walk a fine line knowing when you need to intervene. Send some rain... and cooler temps. Rant over.

We keep pushing our breeding dates back, but the cows don't seem to follow instructions very well. We haven't had measurable rain in more than 45 days, except a half inch a few weeks ago. It is dry and hot in SW MO. Lost an embryo calf tonight, not due until 9/5. When I went to check the cows, this one had the sack over his face, the cow was licking the rear end of the calf. Calf was a Sazerack embryo. The second one is a heifer, not due until 9/11. Saw heifer in labor while dealing with dead calf. Gave the heifer an hour, went back and checked on her. No progress... sigh. Brought her in after dark; found the head but no legs. So I went fishing, found the front legs and brought them into the birth canal. The heifer did the rest. Nice little heifer calf born. We will weigh her in the morning, for now, I'm going to bed!

Our extension working for producers! This was a large study done on reuse of CiDRs and pregnancy rates. Stop wasting money and tossing them after the 1st use. We've been doing this for years (typically only used them twice, but now we will rewash and use them a 3rd time). These are the biggest expense when setting up recips for embryos.

Great news! This is a 3 year old, raising her second calf (Revolution sired heifer), and she was just confirmed AI bred to Money Maker! Unfortunately for her, we tried to put an embryo in her, which resulted in (a new vet used) her losing her tail because the vet used too much lidocaine. The poor cow couldn't stand once she left the chute for several hours. Anyways, we don't like spring calving, and with her losing time because of the lidocaine incident, we have decided to consign her to the Fall State Sale. You can see she does her job well! Her bull calf last year went on to make a great herd bull prospect, and her heifer this year is being retained to replace her. Look for her in the fall, we call her Ester. Her dam is still working on the farm; A Cowboy Cut x Spring Velvet 2019 cow that has an AI sired calf each fall.

THIS is why I keep pushing our calving dates back. Missouri gets some pretty hot summers over the next 60 days. Friday, a cool front came through and it didn't get over the 70's, then this heat wave hit and it's been miserable the last 2 days. Actual temps above 100, and factor in the humidity and you can't stand it being outside. I'm pretty sure I know who slipped this calf, since she was off by herself and bagged up. She would be due 9/10, and the calf was a heifer sired by Money Maker. Here's where genetics are so important! Her dam, an embryo first calf heifer, came home empty last fall (we put our breds on another farm 3 miles away, and only check them once weekly over the summer). We had 4 out of about 40 come home empty... unheard of for us. We don't use a bull (or didn't), so it was a hard hit. We learned about the new tick disease, Theileria, and actually had a positive tested cow, so we checked it off to that. Both this heifer and her dam have hair they don't shed. This heifer will not get a second chance like her dam... she's going in the freezer or the stockyard as soon as I'm sure she's the guilty one who lost her calf. Hair that don't shed and MO humid summers don't work well together.

When we were asked to consign cattle to the Fall State Sale this November, letting go of our coveted SC Robins Kiss genetics was the last thing on my mind! Robin has truly revolutionized our herd. She is a no-nonsense, highly fertile powerhouse who consistently stamps her calves with massive growth and performance. Once we realized just how exceptional she is, we flushed her to the standout brothers, Anthem and Patriot. We are also incredibly excited for this fall, when our first Money Maker sired embryos hit the ground!We have only ever sold one Robin daughter—and she was a high-seller at the state sale a few years back. Because she blessed us with an abundance of Anthem embryos, we decided it was time to share the wealth and offer a set to the public.

Such a great feeling, even though we are weeks behind our normal 1st cutting time frame. Hay will be mature and lower quality, but some hay is better than no hay! The abundant rain we had in May is appreciated!
