God Is Still Writing Your Story

Imagine standing at the edge of the ocean.
Watch the waves come toward you…
and then retreat. The shoreline is constantly changing.

And sometimes, so is our life.

Joni Eareckson Tada was just 17 years old when a diving accident changed her life forever. She went from being an active young woman with dreams of college and the future to living with quadriplegia.

At first, she desperately wanted God to change her circumstances. She prayed for healing. She wanted her old life back.

And perhaps you understand that prayer.

Maybe there is something in your life right now that you wish God would change.

A relationship.
A loss.
A disappointment.
A diagnosis.
A door that closed.
A dream that didn't happen the way you imagined.

But Joni's story reminds us that God can be working even when He doesn't work in the way we expected.

She has said that what once felt like a prison eventually became a place where she experienced the freedom of knowing Jesus more deeply.

Listen to these words from Scripture:

“For we live by faith, not by sight.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:7

Faith means I don't have to see the whole story to trust the Author.

You may only be looking at one chapter.
But God sees the entire book.

Joni has spoken about how suffering has caused her to loosen her grip on this world and fix her hope more firmly on Christ and heaven. "I'd rather be in this wheelchair knowing Jesus as I do, than to be on my feet without Him".

And one day, when we can finally see the whole picture, perhaps we will realize that even the chapters we would have erased were chapters God used to draw us closer to Him.

So today, don't ask only,
“Why did this happen?”
Ask,
“Jesus, how can You meet me here?”

Because your story is not finished.
God is still writing.
And He is still with you.

What are ya drinking?

Take a slow breath in... and let it out.

"Whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give will become a spring of water welling up in them to eternal life." — John 4:14

A woman came to that well carrying jars — and carrying years of trying to fill something that never stayed full. Jesus didn't ask her to explain herself. He simply offered her something that wouldn't run dry.

Ask yourself, gently — what well have you been returning to? What have you been drawing from, again and again, hoping it would finally be enough?

Let the sound of the waves be your permission to set that jar down.

You don't have to keep drawing from what runs dry. There's a spring being offered to you right now — not something you chase, but something that rises up from within.

“Peace, Be Still”
Matthew 8:26 | Mark 4:39 | Luke 8:24

As we sit beside the ocean, we are reminded that the same God who spoke peace over the raging waters thousands of years ago still speaks peace over the storms we face today.

Picture the disciples in the boat. They were not strangers to the sea. Many of them were fishermen. They knew the waters. They knew the wind. They knew the waves. But this storm was beyond their ability to control. The boat was filling with water, fear was rising, and Jesus was asleep.

In desperation they cried out, “Master, Master, we are perishing!”

How often do we find ourselves in that same place?
“Lord, I can’t handle this.”
“Lord, I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
“Lord, where are You in this storm?”

But Jesus didn’t panic. He didn’t run around trying to fix everything. He simply stood and spoke three powerful words:

“Peace, be still.”

And immediately the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Timothy Keller often reminds us that the storms of life reveal where our true trust is placed. Faith is not the absence of storms. Faith is knowing that Jesus is with us in the boat. The disciples had Jesus physically present, yet they were overcome with fear because they focused more on the size of the waves than the presence of their Savior.

The same is true for us. Sometimes our circumstances are loud. The waves of uncertainty, stress, loss, change, or fear can feel overwhelming. But the voice of Jesus is still greater than the storm.

Notice that Jesus first calmed the storm around them, but then He addressed the storm within them:

"Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" (Matthew 8:26)

He wasn’t shaming them. He was inviting them into deeper trust. He was saying, “You don’t have to be controlled by fear when you know who is in the boat with you.”

As the waves roll onto this shore today, let each one be a reminder: God is steady. God is present. God is faithful.

The storm may not always disappear immediately, but the presence of Christ brings a calm that the storm cannot take away.

The Chase

Are you running after something you can't quite name? At first we think we're chasing after success or Love or Money or recognition or beauty or freedom or a quieter life.

Often what we chase on the surface is carrying another longing underneath.

Our Meditation Today 🧘🏼‍♀️

Take a comfortable seat and gently close your eyes. Let your shoulders soften, unclench your jaw, and take a slow, deep breath in... and exhale. Again, breathe in the goodness of God... and breathe out every worry, fear, and burden.

As you settle into this moment, remember this beautiful promise from Lamentations 3:22-23:

"The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning."

Every sunrise is a reminder that God's faithfulness has never failed. No matter what yesterday held, His mercy meets us again today. He has walked with you through every season—the joyful mountaintops, the uncertain valleys, and even the moments when you couldn't see His hand. Looking back, you can see that He never left you.

Take another deep breath.

Maybe you're waiting for an answer to prayer. Maybe you're trusting God for healing, direction, restoration, or peace. Remember that God's delays are never His denials. His timing is perfect because His love is perfect.

Hear these words from Deuteronomy 31:8:

"Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you."

Imagine placing every concern into God's hands. You don't have to carry tomorrow today. The God who has been faithful in your past is already waiting in your future.

As you breathe in, silently say, "Great is Your faithfulness."

As you breathe out, whisper, "I trust You."

Let those words settle deep within your heart.

Lord, thank You for being constant when life is uncertain. Thank You that Your promises never change and Your love never runs out. Help us remember that even when we cannot trace Your hand, we can always trust Your heart. Fill us today with confidence, peace, and unwavering hope as we rest in Your faithfulness.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
