Congratulations to these amazing teams 🎉

Ava and Lottie were 6th in the State for Beginner Horsemanship and a finalist for Beginner Western Pleasure! They also had a great go in the showmanship!

Josie and Maddie have come so far! They had a little bauble in the start of the trail course, but had an amazing go besides that!

Thank you to the wonderful friends and family that supported these girls for the entire 4 day show! I couldn’t be more proud of all of them!

🐴 A polished showmanship performance starts with clear communication between horse and handler.

Your position helps you guide your horse through the pattern while presenting each movement with accuracy and confidence. Staying upright with your shoulders back, keeping your hands steady, and looking in the direction of travel allows you to remain aware of your horse’s response as you prepare for the next maneuver.

That awareness is just as important during inspection, when the judge moves around your horse. Using the quartering system, you adjust your position in relation to the judge so they have a clear view while you remain able to observe both your horse and the inspection. Practicing these transitions helps you move smoothly and maintain your horse’s attention without disrupting their stance.

Consistent practice with your own posture, timing, and footwork can help make your cues more subtle and your presentation more coordinated.

📌 Save this post for your next practice session.

Gretta planned a great 4-H meeting for us tonight to learn about and compare different types of stall bedding. We even got to clean little stalls with chocolate chips to see which bedding made it the easiest to pick out!
