Cant wait to get things started with the Benson Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. & the rest of the JoCo Community!

Welcome to the Benson Chamber of Commerce family, Smithfield Tobs Baseball and JOCO TaterHogs! ⚾️ We are absolutely thrilled to welcome this organization to Johnston County and our Chamber network!

Baseball has deep, historic roots in Eastern North Carolina, and few teams embody that tradition quite like the Tobs. Established way back in 1908, they are one of the longest-standing brands in the sport. Their name is a proud nod to the region’s rich agricultural history ("Tobacconists"), and they are fresh off an emotional, championship-winning 2025 season as the reigning Pettit Cup Champions!

Now, they are embarking on an exciting new chapter right here in our backyard:

• A New Home: Relocating to a brand-new, state-of-the-art ballpark in Smithfield, NC, with the first pitch set for Summer 2027!

• A Fun New Identity: Embracing their incredible Johnston County alter-ego—the JOCO TaterHogs—celebrating our vibrant local heritage of sweet potatoes and world-class Eastern NC BBQ!

• Major League Talent: This organization has seen over 100 players drafted into the pros, including standout stars like two-time Gold Glove winner Brenton Doyle and future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander!

Beyond the summer collegiate games, this facility will be a year-round hub of community engagement, hosting nearly 150 days of events including youth camps, high school classics, college tournaments, and charity events.

The Tobs and TaterHogs are driven by a mission to deliver affordable, family-friendly entertainment while giving back to the community that supports them.

We couldn't be prouder to partner with them as they build the next great chapter of North Carolina baseball.

We are still reeling with excitement from the Legacy Awards and so grateful for all the community support!

The addition of the silent auction and raffle to the event was incredibly fun and benefited a good cause. Thank you to all of the generous donors who provided items and experiences for these activities! Your donations directly supported the Triangle East Economic Development Foundation, allowing us to continue supporting the community through workforce readiness, educational programs, and business growth.
