Big Dog Came to eat last night at Strengthshop. Congrats to Evan Kline for this hard-fought 302lb log clean and press. This is Strengthshop's #1 all time OHP and biggest log clean and press!

If you haven't lifted on a Slater log find one and do so! A metal "log" will never be a log until somebody shows me a metal tree growing somewhere!

Strong things keep happening at the one and only Strengthshop Gym because we have strong willed people executing the most proven programming in all of strength sports.

Ben is not a guy who loves the limelight, but hopefully he will forgive me for this well-deserved recognition.

This 280 deadlift wasn't the biggest pull we had this week at Strengthshop Gym, but this 20lb PR by Ben Smith might have been the biggest accomplishment.

Making progress in the gym is a formidable challenge for each and every athlete that steps into the arena. But some simply have a steeper mountain to climb than others. Ben's mountain is steep. But his discipline and will are stronger than the obstacles he faces.

There is no Strengthshop athlete that I'm prouder of than Ben Smith. He was one of the first to step through the door and trust my coaching at Strengthshop, and he has never wavered in the 4 years since. In my three decades of strength coaching I've met few who work harder or complain less.

Well done, sir. There is much more to come.

Strong things are the standard here. Iron sharpens iron. There is no other gym like Strengthshop Gym.

Not every impressive feat of strength is a 1rm.

This 390 x 5 deadlift set by Ron Calcutt demonstrates the discipline and commitment to sound technique needed to lift big after 50.

Notice the set up... long arms, hips seated to set the lifters wedge, crown of the head towards the ceiling, lats tensed, huge brace, and then leg drive to break the bar loose from the platform.

The hips don't move until the bar leaves the ground, and the last rep looks identical to the first. This is deadlift excellency on display. This is years of focused technique building on display. This is understanding that strength is a sport and that strength skills must be refined.

At Strengthshop Gym we stand on a foundation built from a combined 40+ years of strength coaching experience. We teach technique, drive discipline, and have the knowledge that is only built by years of experience and walking the walk.
We have equipment you will not find elsewhere and we maintain the functionality and cleanliness of our facility with the same commitment to excellence that we do everything else.

Are you looking for the right place to build a stronger future? Go check out every other option first. Then come see Strengthshop Gym.

Max effort/ 1rm training is tricky. Attempt PRs too often and you set yourself up for injury, damage confidence, and upset the natural progression of programming.

At the same time, if a lifter steers clear of Max effort training they leave much progress on the table. There is no training method more important than Max effort. Learning to strain and struggle against limit weight is a skill that much be developed if an athlete has competitive aspirations or simply wants to reach their full strength potential.

At Strengthshop Gym we implement Westside Barbell tried and tested conjugate training system... 40 years of all time world record lifts from men and woman of all ages and weight classes is proof enough for me. As Louie said..." I didn't invent toilet paper but I'm smart enough to use it."

Strengthshop didn't invent the conjugate system, but three decades of training athletes with countless approaches has proven to me the unrivaled excellence of the conjugate system.

Big lifts like this pull from Shaun do not happen without disciplined consistent training with a high level of intensity. Shaun is strong because of Shaun. He did the work. We simply show the path at Strengthshop Gym.

Today is 1RM back squat day for several of Strengthshop's strongest athletes. Abby's 270 safety squat bar PR is the second heaviest women's squat in Strengthshop history... our first back squat PR of the day but it will not be the last!

Notice the sticking point mid way in this lift. Look what happens when a max weight on your back moves slow (as a max always will) and you'll see that heavy squats aren't won or lost in your legs. Heavy back squats almost always come down to core strength. This 270 tried to dunk Abby forward, but the strength in her ab wall/spinal erectors/lats enabled her to drive her head up to the ceiling and achieve lock out.

If your squats aren't moving up, and you aren't training heavy core movements multiple times every week, make the change and watch what happens.

Conjugate system producing conjugate system results once more at Strengthshop Gym!

We all know the story of the American Revolution... common men, untrained and poorly equipped, who risked it all to defeat the world's most formidable military force, win their liberty and establish a republic.

But much like the hard won progress made in the gym, liberty is not inherently permanent. It must be earned over and over, day after day, year after year.

We aren't free today only because of the risks taken and the battles fought and won by those famous names in our elementary school history books. And we certainly don't owe our freedom to either side of the aisle in Washington DC.

We are free because of uncommon men like retired US Marine Corp Major James Capers Jr., a native son of the great state of South Carolina, and a 2026 recipient of a long overdue Medal of Honor. For those interested I have attached the remarkable story of Major Capers heroic life below. As long as men like this walk among us freedom will prevail. Thank you sir for days like today.

Retired U.S. Marine Corps Major James Capers Jr. is a legendary Force Reconnaissance Marine and one of the most highly decorated service members in U.S. history. Born in South Carolina in 1937, he overcame a childhood of sharecropping to shatter racial barriers within the military, ultimately becoming the first African American commissioned officer in the Marine Corps to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

His 22-year career is defined by extraordinary leadership, particularly as the father figure and team leader of the elite "Team Broadminded" during the Vietnam War.

Medal of Honor: On June 18, 2026, he was formally awarded the Medal of Honor by President Donald Trump. This upgraded a Silver Star he initially received for actions between March 31 and April 3, 1967, near Phu Loc. During this four-day patrol deep behind enemy lines, Capers continued to lead his nine-man team and direct supporting fire despite suffering severe gunshot and fragmentation wounds. Refusing medical evacuation until every one of his Marines was safely aboard the extraction helicopter, he saved his unit from impending attack.

Congratulations to Shaun Wert on this hard-fought lifetime bench press personal record of 365lbs! This lift demonstrates Shaun putting conjugate pressing principles to work... controlling the descent with a tight upper back, explosive reversal with simultaneous leg drive, and fighting to keep the bar stacked over his elbows with forearms perpendicular to the floor all the way to lock out!

It is especially awesome to see one of our US military veterans hitting a record lift as Independence Day approaches! Good work Shaun, and thank you for your service!💪🇺🇸💪

This 680lb parallel box squat is the biggest single lift in the history of Strengthshop Gym. We have had a lot of strong athletes come through our door over the years, both as clients and as competitors in our elite strongman competitions. But Strengthshop's own EVAN KLINE is the only one capable of moving this incredible 680lb squat.

Excellent depth.

Full weight-transfer box squat.

Performed on the best bar on the market for max-effort squats: the Rogue CB4 buffalo bar.

We are smashing records left and right at Strengthshop Gym because...

Iron sharpens iron and
Conjugate system beats all.

And we are just getting started.

Every time Abby steps onto the platform for a 1RM attempt the women's record is in jeopardy of being broken.

Why is she successful over and over again?

- Consistency. Abby doesn't miss training. She doesn't let work, travel, or other responsibilities prevent training. She finds a way. She gets it ALL done.

- Intensity. Abby shows up and sends it. Over and over. Not every day is a 1rm day, but every training day calls for intense focus on doing the work... training time is training time, not chatting or scrolling time.

- Proper programming. Strengthshop is a conjugate gym. Proper programming means constant focus on ALL aspects of strength development: maximal strength, power, hypertrophy, athleticism, core power, and conditioning. Too many modern programs implement blocks of training where one element of strength is prioritized at the expense of other elements of strength (bulks, conditioning blocks, tempo blocks, etc). These programs always have gaps that reveal themselves by way of plateaus and injuries. Conjugate never sacrifices one strength for another.

There's a reason Westside won and broke records at the highest clip of any strength focused gym in history. There's a reason so many of the strongest athletes in the world today still use conjugate principles based on the Westside model. And there's a reason why, less than 4 years into her strength training journey, Abby has an elite deadlift complemented by a well rounded strength profile to include pressing power, core strength, and trophy-worthy conditioning.

Conjugate works. Always has, always will.
