Saturday plans? We’ve got you. 🌿💚

This week Women’s Run Club is heading off the pavement and onto the trails for a beginner-friendly adventure!

Join Fleet Feet coaches and Western States runners Kirsten and Sarah as they lead a relaxed 2–4 mile trail run, sharing tips, building confidence on dirt, and showing you a different side of Sacramento’s running scene.

📍 Meet at Temple Coffee (Hazel Ave.)
🕢 Saturday at 7:30 AM

No trail shoes? No problem. We’ll be on non-technical trails, so your regular running shoes will do just fine. Just don’t be afraid to get a little dirty.

Stick around after the run for coffee, conversation, and community.

Tag a friend who’s been wanting to try trail running and we’ll see you Saturday! 🌲☕

Most runners only start walking when the race is already falling apart. By then, the walk break is damage control—not pacing.

A planned break taken early can settle the effort, protect your form, and stop one bad mile from becoming five. Walking before you’re desperate isn’t quitting; it’s using the break while it can still help.

Would you plan walk breaks from the start, or does that still feel like giving in? Pick a side below—the first comment explains why walking can sometimes help runners finish faster.

Outdoor running gets treated like the “real” version, but your lungs and legs don’t care where the belt is moving. Heat, darkness, unsafe roads, or a packed schedule are all good reasons to take the run indoors.

The takeaway is simple: the best run is often the one you can complete safely and consistently. Treadmill miles still build fitness, and they absolutely still count.

Treadmill runners, what keeps you indoors: weather, safety, convenience, or something else?

Don't blow up your marathon race

Bill Schwarz first started running in high school during the 1950s as a way to fulfill a sports credit. Though he never raced competitively, he fell in love with the rhythm and solitude of running.

Now at 90 years old, Schwarz has a new goal for his running: his first 26.2.
