Let me de-influence you from caring so much about how calories you “burned”🙌🏼💁🏻‍♀️💅🏻

1. Wearable tech (watches, oura ring, etc) is wildly inaccurate. If you’re trying to hit a goal number, the margin of error is high. It’s a guess, at best.

2. Focusing on calories burned is often in opposition to building strength & muscle mass, if not supported appropriately by food intake.

3. Building muscle mass is a better way to build your metabolism & burn more energy throughout the day and at rest, compared to burning calories doing cardio.

4. Your body and metabolism adapt to energy expenditure and intake. If you’re dieting and spending a lot of time doing cardio, and not building muscle, you’re going to be spinning your wheels after a handful of weeks.

This is NOT cardio slander, we need to include cardiovascular exercise for a variety of reasons. The message here, is that focusing on a number is going to lead you down a path of disappointment.

TLDR; building muscle mass is a more effective use of your time for long term metabolic health & body composition. Yes there is more nuance that a caption can’t convey.

Monthly reminder not to compare your body to pro athletes or fitness girls on Reta + testosterone (no shade if you choose that life, we’re just playing in different leagues). 😤💖💪🏼

Waiting for all the type A competitive athletes to realize they can lift 3-4 days/week for 45 min and do a little cardio & still be fit and athletic, have more energy & live fuller lives ✨😤💅🏻

Time inside (the gym) 💪🏼 😤✨Time outside on the river & trails 🙌🏼🌳🙏🏼Long weekends are the best weekends.

Real strength is built over years of consistent training, not one program you buy off a fitness influencer. The strongest people you know started young, probably never went longer than 6 months away from a weight room, and match their nutrition & recovery to their training load.

Consistency over a decade >>8 weeks of programming, followed by 8 months of starting over every Monday.

When you’re consistently training 3-5 days/week over many years, you can maintain during those months when life is busy, you can do the 2 week vacation, you can take pregnancy/postpartum time to heal & recover while your body retains the strength you’ve built over all those years. But it does take the leg work. It won’t happen like that after “locking in” for two months.
