I think one of the biggest reasons people feel intimidated by yoga is that they assume the physical practice is the whole practice.
They see flexibility, advanced poses, and people who seem completely comfortable in their bodies, and they think they need to get there before yoga can be for them.
The longer I practice and teach, the less I think about yoga that way.
Somatic yoga has especially changed how I relate to the practice because it brings my attention back to what is happening inside me while I move.
I start noticing how I respond when something feels difficult, where I tend to rush, when I stop listening to myself, and what helps me feel more present again.
Those observations matter because they do not stay on the mat.
The way we meet discomfort, uncertainty, effort, and rest in a yoga practice can tell us a lot about how we meet those same experiences in our lives.
That is the part of yoga I wish more people experienced.
You do not have to be flexible to begin. You just have to be willing to pay attention.
I’m curious, what’s something you’ve learned about yourself through yoga that you never expected? Let’s share our experiences in the comments. You never know who might need to hear yours.✨
