Congrats to the girls team too!

Sorry for the delay…….

Congratulations to the Girls Wrestling team who are the 2nd PAA team of the Month for January.

They were nominated by the Tara Lanz. Tara said:

In the first year the CAAC held girls dual events, the team finished with an overall record of 9–6. They placed 2nd as a team at the CAAC Tournament and earned an impressive 4th place finish at Districts out of 44 teams, with six regional qualifiers. Two wrestlers advanced to the State Finals at Ford Field.
The team was undefeated in the CAAC White division. While not all schools fielded girls teams, many did, making the accomplishment meaningful and competitive.

Beyond competition, this season was defined by tremendous growth both on and off the mat. The team earned Academic All-State honors, highlighting their dedication in the classroom as well as in athletics.

Amie Miller’s leadership and work ethic are evident across all levels of girls wrestling in Portland. High school team members volunteered to travel with a group of middle school girls to support them at their first-ever middle school girls tournament, demonstrating the program’s commitment to mentorship and growth.

Although the overall record may not immediately reflect the full scope of success, wins and losses never tell the entire story. This program continues to build confidence, discipline, and a strong work ethic in its athletes. Junior Captain Jonnie Miller remains a shining example of leadership, inspiring girls of all ages to step onto the mat and consider wrestling.

Congrats to the boys team!!

Congratulations to the Boys Wrestling team who are the 1st PAA team of the Month for January.

They were nominated by the Tara Lanz. Tara said:

The team posted an outstanding 30–3 overall record this season. They captured tournament championships at the Portland Team Duals, Fruitport Team Duals, Shepherd Invitational, and Leslie Invitational.
Entering the postseason with momentum, the Raiders claimed the Team District Championship before falling in the Regional Finals to Eaton Rapids, the eventual State Runner-Up.

Individually, the team qualified six wrestlers for the State Finals. Senior Brad Meyers and Junior Branlun Simon enter the State Finals with undefeated records, a testament to their dedication and preparation throughout the season.

Beyond competition, the boys earned the Team Volunteer Award from the City of Portland for their service during the Holiday Festival. They also achieved Academic All-State honors, demonstrating excellence in the classroom as well as on the mat.

The boys wrestling program continues to exemplify its core values—moral, mental, and physical strength—with many athletes training year-round to pursue excellence.

We are incredibly grateful for the support shown during our K–12 program fundraiser. Your generosity directly strengthens every level of wrestling in Portland, and the impact is already being felt.

Because of supporters like you, we’ve been able to sponsor high school athletes at national tournaments, cover the middle school banquet, provide coffee and donuts at the alumni practice, assist families with club registration fees, and host the team favorite glo party practices. Most recently, your support helped send our high school teams to do team building activities and will be sending our club kids to watch some MSU wrestling!

We fundraise to help with all sorts of things like sending kids to camps, helping out with registration fees for our club, and sponsoring athletes for national tournaments. It's not all serious business though, we also help to pay for team building events and glo-party practices. Let us know if you have any questions!

Not enough pictures to show all the wrestling that happened today in Saranac, but here's a snippet! We're SUPER PROUD of all the effort the kids put in, and grateful for their parents (and their patience) as we experienced something new as a club. Our kiddos wrestled 48 matches total today 💪

Also thanks to Saranac Wrestling for running a smooth tournament today!
