If you have ever felt behind for not knowing this stuff, hi, same!! THAT is why I do what I do.

When I first got into these certifications I was sitting between a guy who had 2 PhDs and another guy who only trained Olympic-level athletes. OKAY COOL. I am just a normal person LOL

I'm also a 4'11" and female, ha-ha, so needless to say, I was very, very intimidated. I hated how I felt the entire weekend. I was just so stupid, and everyone's so much smarter than I am.

So I am on a mission to teach in a way that I wish I was taught, and this cranial nerves 101 program I built for you, I teach in a way where you can actually retain it. You get lifetime access and an incredible workbook. I'd love for you to join. DM me if you have any questions.

Why does safe movement still feel threatening sometimes?

Ok, story time...

One of my alumni came to me with a situation that I know so many movement professionals have seen before. Her client could perform the most beautiful bodyweight squat you’ve ever seen.

Great depth, great alignment, zero obvious compensation. SWOON.

But the second she added even a little bit of load, everything changed. Her jaw clenched, her breath stopped, her shoulders crept up toward her ears, and the entire movement went from smooth and confident to rigid and guarded.

When my alumni asked what she was feeling, the client said, “I don’t know. I just feel like something bad is going to happen.”

Comment the word BLOG and I'll send it to you!

James Clear Habits

Change the scope, not the goal. Stealing this from you, Mr. !

Ok, so you planned an hour-long workout. Then life happened, and now you have 20 minutes, and naturally your brain goes Well, guess we're not doing it then!

PLEASE… Do 👏 the 👏 20 👏 minutes 👏!

Watch to learn why, then tell me, what is the thing you keep skipping because you can't do the whole version of it?

Sure, a pile of tools is awesome… I geek out over this stuff. But it is not an actual plan.

Before I add another band, drill, stretch, or corrective exercise, I want to know what changes when I give the brain just ONE clear piece of information.

One visual exercise? Vestibular? Smell? Tongue?? Where does their history lead me?

I promise, when you can see what changes (and what does not), you'll stop throwing those coveted bands at the wall and calling it a treatment plan.

Come geek out with me, and comment NERDY if you want to learn how to make better decisions with the client in front of you.

You will learn 5 brain based exercises that you can use IMMEDIATELY. Trust me, it's worth it.

My friend taught me something I technically already knew, but you know when something actually lands?

Anyway, when you look at something far away, you are RESTING your eyes.

Think about it. Every device you own lives about two feet from your face, all day. That is an isometric hold on the intrinsic muscles of the eye. You would never hold a squat for nine straight hours and then wonder why your legs are toast, but that is what your eyes are doing from the second you wake up 🤯

Try it out! Look out a window, down the street, at literally anything on the horizon. That’s it.

It’s free, portable, and requires ZERO equipment.

I am working on this one myself right now, so consider this an open invitation to join me.

When I’m not recording for you in my car, my current longest distance gaze right now is from my baby’s high chair to the far wall of my kitchen 🙃

Let me know if you take me up on it. And comment IMPROVE VISION, and I'll send over a resource that literally everyone on this planet needs, especially if they’re over 40 years old.

If their balance disappears when they close their eyes, do not blame the ankle yet.

Their eyes may have been doing a lot of the work.

With eyes open, the brain gets help from what it sees, what the inner ear senses, and what the body and feet feel.

Close the eyes, and one MAJOR source of information is GONE.

So if the whole drill seems like it failed, I am not thinking, “They need to try harder.”

I AM thinking: What changed? More sway? Toe gripping? Breath holding? Panic? A symptom spike?

That is not failure, but a CLUE about where to start.

If you want to stop guessing your way through balance drills, comment NERDY. I’ll send you the workshop that teaches you what to look for next.

Jaw tension does not automatically mean the jaw is the whole story.

Before I chase the painful spot, I always, always, always, want to see how the person organizes the whole neighborhood around it. (Did I mention, always?)

What happens when they move their eyes? Turn their head? Change their posture? Reach overhead?

And no, it’s not because one of those things is “always.” It’s because the client’s response gives you a better place to start than guessing.

Save this for the next “my jaw is always tight” client.

Your feet are not just along for the ride.

They are your first contact with the ground and, did you know, they are constantly feeding your brain information about pressure, position, and where your body is in space? I could nerd out about this all day… but I digress… 👣

Ok, quick test:
1. Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor, or stand barefoot if that feels better
2. Lift your big toe while keeping the other four toes down
3. Then switch: press the big toe down and lift the other four
4. Notice which side feels confusing, cramped, or like your foot just…refuses to cooperate. 😅

Pull out your Nancy Drew notebook, bc you just found a clue!

If your foot cannot clearly separate those movements, it may be worth paying attention to what changes when you give it a little more input.

Comment which side was way harder.

Check it…

You are NOT missing skills.

You ARE missing the lens that helps you see why one client gets better with the usual plan, while another one does every exercise, every stretch, every “right” thing, and STILL walks in saying, “Yep. Still hurts.”

That is the work we’re doing here!

Not collecting more drills or pretending every client needs a brand-new diagnosis. It’s about learning how to look at the nervous system so you can make better decisions with the actual person in front of you.

So, are you ready? Ready to get NERDY?

Get Nerdy with the Nervous System is a 90-minute online workshop for movement pros like you who are ready to stop guessing, help more of their “mystery” clients, and build a practice people want to tell their friends about.

Comment NERDY, and I’ll send you the deets!
