Fishtown Beer Runners The Fishtown Beer Runners combine responsible running and drinking in the interest of science. (sometimes longer sometimes shorter).

History
One afternoon in November, 2007 while running together in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Eric Fiedler told David April about a beer study conducted by Professor Manuel Castillo at the University of Granada, Spain. Eric and David decided to test the study and stopped for a beer at the New Wave Cafe on Allegheny Avenue. Several trial runs later, David and Eric were determined to

spread the word to beer drinkers and runners alike and formed the Fishtown Beer Runners. The first official run, with four runners, took place on December 20, 2007 to the Druid’s Keep. Concept
The Fishtown Beer Runners® combine responsible running and consumption in the interest of science. We gather once a week to run three to five miles, and conclude each run at a pub for a beer or two. Goals
• to encourage people to exercise by running (or walking)
• to provide camaraderie for new runners
• to promote the responsible enjoyment of beer
• to support local tavern owners and breweries


How it Works
There are predetermined destinations (which will change weekly) about three to five miles. The destination is a bar or restaurant. As with a typical 5K, faster runners will lead, followed by slower paced runners, followed by walkers. Run your own pace and get to the bar, no questions asked. There are no dues, and everyone is responsible for buying their own beer. Responsible Consumption
The Fishtown Beer Runners® promote responsible beer consumption. Responsible consumption means drinking within one’s limits. Please note, drinking beer while running will not be permitted. Membership
There is no formal membership, no fees or dues. Fishtown Beer Runners® is open to anyone over 21. New and seasoned runners are welcomed. Elite runners should remember this is primarily a social outing and should plan to do greater distances before meeting. The club is also open to walkers and yes, even nondrinkers. Start Locations

For this month’s brunch run, we’re bringing back an old FBR tradition. Years ago, we would get together for a trail run and potluck in the Wissahickon celebrating a few August birthdays. While it’s not August and we aren’t reviving the potluck this year - we’ll head into Manayunk for brunch & beers after at Lucky’s Last Chance - it is time to bring back a good ol’ fashioned run in the Wiss. Join us Saturday, June 13th at 11am at the Gorgas Lane entrance to the Wissahickon Trails (Gorgas dead-ends at the trail and there is decent street parking) for a 5 mile out-and-back (with options to go longer or shorter). We even have a Beer Runner birthday to celebrate (happy early birthday !)

Brunch & Beer Runners is a monthly weekend mid-distance run, usually between 6-10 miles, that explores neighborhoods and bars we wouldn’t get to on a regular Thursday evening run and ends in a brunch-time* meal together.

* Not every establishment we run to will offer brunch food specifically, but there will be beer.

Be sure to stay hydrated! It will be a hot run tonight as we make our long-overdue return to the Giant Riverwalk. Run fast because their 48 indoor taps close at 8pm, but they will have cans available after that. You can use the self-service taps by putting down a card and getting a wristband, or you can buy singles in the market. There will be great sunset views over the river, great beer, and great running friends. See you there!

The Philly Mayor’s Cup is a great event that captures the best parts of the Philly running community and is a fun day all around. This one is ALL about the teams; there are no individual winners. Choose from 5K Trail, 5 Mile Road, 10K Trail, 10 Mile Road, and a Half Marathon Trail. After the races are over, the party begins. We welcome all to join the Fishtown Beer Runners team.
