Plus, the habits you need to maintain your results aren't going to be built in a month.. or even a few...

We don't even reach the "maintenance" stage of behavior change until we've been consistently showing up and doing the thing for 6 MONTHS!! This stage is also where we are typically better at handling any relapses. (Which are normal!!)

Habits don't usually form in 21 days (sometimes, sure. But usually, it takes longer)

So focus long term. Weight loss can and should look like .5 - 1lb of weight lost per week for most people (and I'm not talking linear, week to week. It will fluctuate. But that should be the average when you look back over the months)

You're gonna be less likely give up prematurely when you have the right expectations going into this.

The "I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off" plan isn't gonna be as "optimal" as the "everything is going beautifully and I have soooo much time" plan, but the chicken is the plan you're gonna get the majority of your results during 👌

3 things are true at the same time:

1. Calories matter
2. Food quality matters
3. Enjoying life matters

So eat your veggies, drink your water, watch the calorie content in the food you eat the most, have the freakin donut on occasion, and hug your loved ones as much as possible cuz life's gonna be over in the blink of an eye.

I share this every few months because I really don't think this reminder will ever become obsolete!!

"How do I become more consistent??"

This mindset. Right here.

That's one of my biggest pieces of advice for getting more consistent with your nutrition/workouts so that you can lose the weight and keep it off.

You miss a workout? You take a vacation and gain some weight? You go over your calories for the day?

Kay. It happens.

Your VERY NEXT choice, hop right back on that horse.

Sooner, rather than later.

Do just 1 thing that puts you back in the green.

Could be a 5 minute walk. Could be getting through a workout. Could be hitting your protein goal. Could be saying no to another donut.

Just make 1 choice.

I assure you. That 1 thing you did that you blew WAY out of proportion isn't as bad as you thought. And even if it is. No need to keep spiraling ❤️

If you struggle to get consistent in the gym, but your main motivator to get there is to change the way you look?? We may have just nailed down the problem.

It takes time to change your body. A lot of time.

Seeing improvements to strength & conditioning don't take nearly as long... even immediately after a workout, we almost always feel better than when we started. Immediate return on investment.

Not to mention, improving health markers and lowering disease risk is HUGE!! These are the things to focus on and keep showing up to your workouts for.

Performance based goals are almost always gonna be wayyyy more motivating than the physical changes that are gonna take a while to start seeing.

The 20yo "no excuses" gym bro telling YOU, a grown-ass adult with very stressful responsibilities that we all have the same 24hr in a day?? No.

It DOES NOT MEAN you can't reach your goals. It just means the way you approach things, the expectations for how fast you're gonna get there, and the level of difficulty of the process is gonna be different for you.

And that's okay.

You can do really hard things. Clearly. You do that every single day you wake up and take care of your family.

Whether you choose to track your food in an app or just have a range you aim to hit for every meal, having a way to keep tabs on how much you're eating is important! And for more reasons than just fat loss!!
