Meet Melissa Metcalfe! Our long time friend and client, she and her gorgeous mare, “Cowgirl” have been coming to swim every year for many summers! The first time she came, she was a single girl living her best life. Over the years, she has shared with us her new husband, bonus son, her baby girl and this time, another new baby! There is nothing more rewarding than sharing our family farm with the families who have made us part of their traditions.

Today's BUSINESS MEETING! These two spectacular geldings are our very own, Stakkatos Cash, “Hammy” a 16.3h 11 yr old imported Hannovarian, and Orus, aka “Busby” a goofy, 6 yr old, 15.2h gorgeous Friesian Sport Horse. Both boys are as sweet and ammy friendly as anyone could ever want! Wonder what they are discussing! LOL

What a fantastic, fun hat workshop we had today with the team from CotyLey Hat Co. and 20 fashion forward cowgirls! Champagne, mimosas and great food, against the backdrop of beautiful views and stunning horses, made the creative juices flow! Every hat was a custom masterpiece, with burned patterns, designs or logos, personalized messages, branding, and a huge assortment of ribbons, feathers and adornments. It was such fun to see everyone’s personality come out through their choices. Some participants even brought cherished keepsakes from home to add! Haley, Rhonda, and Mary Kate were terrific and helped everyone make bring their vision to life. It was such a huge success, we will be doing another next month! Definitely tune into this podcast by friend, clinician, eventer, author and two time Road to the Horse Champion. If you remember, one of our joint development projects with Evan Ackerly of Ackerly Equestrian Services, was filmed for an upcoming episode of Season 2 of this super podcast series. Crowne Jet, aka Twohey, is our 6 yr old, 17h GOV Oldenburg, who spent time in the round pen with both Tik and Nik back in January. His episode can now be seen on this be platform. What a cool experience for both us and Twohey! Follow our page for updates on how Twohey is doing now.

The first time I saw “Groundwork” it was a Monty Roberts demo in Vancouver right after his first book was released. (The Man Who Listens to Horses was published in 1996, it was on the New York Times Bestsellers list for 58 weeks, and translated into more than 15 languages, selling millions of copies worldwide.)

Then I was reintroduced to the concept in 2009 by David and Karen O’Connor and Lauren Nicholson. (As featured in my book, In The Middle Are The Horsemen, which has sold thousands of copies in more than three countries.)

Then I met Jonathan Field in BC. Then Bruce Logan in Texas. Then I started watching “Horsemanship” DVDs. (If I had paid retail price for them all, I would probably have over ten thousand dollars of horsey DVDs on my shelf. A lot of them I got second hand though from friends or on ebay or Facebook Marketplace.) Then I started going to clinics. Then I watched Road To The Horse in 2012 for the first time.

Horsemanship, ground-work, horse psychology, horse behavior… It’s a subject that can keep me interested for hours. Years. Decades.

Now Nick Rivera and I are hosting a new show/podcast/platform called “Groundwork Guys.”
