A lot has changed in gym spaces the last 2 years, more women are lifting, more senior citizens are lifting, and now more kids are lifting. Not just teenagers on the football team, but kids in middle and elementary.
The National Strength and Conditioning Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Sports Medicine, and many other medical and sport related associations all support supervised youth resistance training.
There’s a long listen of reasons but it comes done to exercise being a physically and mentally healthy habit.
Now they aren’t turning into powerlifters or bodybuilders. We’re teaching them how to move, how to push when their muscles get tired. We’re talking about nutrition to fuel their activities. Taking responsibility for self care. Competing with and encouraging each other.
If you’re a curious parent or grand parent, please ask questions, stop by the gym. It might be something you kid really enjoys! (And something so they don’t spend all summer sitting and watching tv)
